Introduced in 1968. the Series II Jaguar E-Type included some
significant changes to the earlier model. Early 1968 4. 2 coupés
received exposed headlamps with chrome embellishers. a collapsible
steering column and safety dashboard rocker switches instead of the
earlier toggle types. The later Series II added new bumpers and
larger tail lights to the other safety features plus a much larger
front air intake and two electric cooling fans instead of one. All
Series II E-Types had all-synchromesh gearboxes. better brake
servos and improved seats.

Requiring restoration. we have on offer today an American market
left hand drive (lhd) 4. 2 litre Jaguar E-Type fixed head coupé
(fhc). imported from California in 1991. From its early Series II
chassis number. we may determine that it was manufactured in 1968;
however. it is registered as a 1969 car. Bodily. the car is better
than at first glance. The vendor states. "according to our
research. this is number 14 of the lhd fhc cars built and is
therefore fitted with the earlier and more attractive series 1/12
bonnets". The paintwork is badly cracked revealing a previous blue
finish and in the area of the left side. lower front sill. the
battery appears to have leaked and caused corrosion. However. apart
from a few scrapes and dents. the rest of the car looks remarkably
sound; especially the bonnet and within the boot area under the
spare wheel. Mechanically the engine starts. runs and displays good
oil pressure. The twin Stromberg carburettors have recently been
overhauled and the non over-drive gearbox functions well. The car
sits upon four wire wheels with a fifth wire wheel as a spare. The
interior also. is surprisingly not in as bad a state as you may
expect. The car was tested at Mallory Park race circuit recently
whereby the vendor informs us that it performed admirably.

This E-Type has its original American Certificate of Title and a UK
registration document. With values of Jaguar E-Types steadily
increasing. this seems an ideal opportunity for the Jaguar
enthusiast/collector. especially given the keen estimate.
