Historics at Brooklands are proud to offer an important motor
car that represents a significant part of Jaguar motor cars'
heritage. This series one fixed head coupé was commissioned by Mr
FRW 'Lofty' England. Competitions Manager and then Chairman and
Chief Executive of Jaguar Cars Ltd.

The Jaguar - Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate confirms that this
is a right hand drive fixed head coupé (FHC) with matching engine. br/>body and chassis numbers. The car still wears its original
registration number of 6515 VC. which is in the same sequence as
the Le Mans Jaguar E-Type FHC of Roy Salvadori and Briggs
Cunningham which achieved a credible 4th place at Le Mans in 1962.
The original Jaguar Order Sheet. Card No. 47986. confirms the
allocation as a Jaguar Works Car with the unusual and. believed to
be. one off colour of fawn beige recorded as 'Special fawn beige'
with instructions to 'fit plates 6515 VC'. In addition the key
numbers are recorded as well as the document being signed off by
'Lofty England'.

As you may imagine. Lofty England ordered special modifications to
enhance the E-Type for his personal use. The air vents were usually
operated by having to lean forward and reach under the dashboard;
however. Lofty's car has two dashboard operated twist controls. br/>which negates this somewhat dangerous practice whilst on the move.
This modification led to the moving of the choke. choke light and
heat controls. A clock control is another addition and purpose
built at the factory as may be seen by looking behind the dashboard
and seeing no evidence of modifications. Another significant
difference is that 6515 VC carries a glove box compartment lid. an
item that did not arrive on production cars until some years later.
There is also a secret compartment that sits behind the passenger
seat; legend has it that Lofty hid his money there.

In addition to the modifications already mentioned. there are
others believed to be added at a later date. These are the
competition offset wire wheels which were a period extra. an all
synchromesh gearbox and a gas flowed cylinder head with valve stem
oil seals fitted. Further improvements include a stainless steel
exhaust and electric fan.

On a recent road test. the car felt extremely well put together and
solid. especially compared to its sibling. the roadster. On
inspection. you see how well the coachwork presents with excellent
panel gaps. No hidden horrors are concealed under the bonnet. nor
the bonnet itself. Overall the car is in excellent order.

With values of Jaguar E-Types steadily increasing. this seems an
incredible opportunity for the Jaguar enthusiast/collector. br/>especially given its history and extremely keen estimate.
