1961 Cadillac DeVille.Found sitting in a field for a few years, this Cadillac was trailered back to Oxfordshire and given a recommission to bring her back to usability. Guided by an original 1961 Cadillac workshop manual, work conducted:New brake master cylinder fitment.Brake fluid flush and refill (each break corner).Distributor disassembly and points recalibrating. Timing calibrated.Failed spark plugs replaced.General oil and filter service (ZDDP formula).Fuel tank cleanse.Necessary electrical contacts cleaned and reorganised.Replacing of fuel delivery lines from fuel pump to carburettor housing.New battery.A good clean.Photos are available of the vehicle prior to this work. The vehicle is now a running, driving, stopping automobile, presented in an honest condition for it to be seen for what it is.The registration mark is 255 UXM.There is limited information on the car's background beyond it arriving into the UK in 1991, seeing use both as a wedding car and part of a country singer's entourage before being parked up. The mileage reads 8587 (unverifiable) at time of posting. Whilst this is highly unlikely to be the true mileage covered since 1961, digitised UK MOT records available do show the mileage at around 7,400 in 2008, with it increasing from there. The vehicle is now in the age-band where the annual MOT is no longer mandatory and its Historic Vehicle status has been applied for and granted by the DVLA, which the V5 document reflects.Under the bonnet is an original period 390ci 6.4L Cadillac V8 engine and the car presents in Olympic White, in accordance with its body tag and chassis identifiers. The vehicle was specified with Air Conditioning (AC) from factory, which was an important specification. Cadillac determined these models simply as those with and without AC. The blue interior leather is in good overall condition, but not thought to be original factory fitment. The unknown length of time the car was left sitting, or with little use, has undoubtedly gone some way toward the patches of rust found around the lower doors, driver footwell, bonnet edges, lower sills, boot lid edges and body panels. Part of this is to be expected from a 60yr old American car though and the underside, inner boot floor and passenger footwells have held up well considering. Some electrical features work, such as the front and rear lights, windscreen wipers, horn and gauges (accuracy to be determined). Whist others, for example the radio, electric windows, interior lighting, heater and windscreen defroster do not. The engine also has a small water leak from what appears to be a plug on the passenger side. The vehicle is now a weekend project and is only receiving limited use around our yard, covering maybe 1 or 2 miles every month to keep her ticking over. Ideally I'd like it to find a home where it can be taken on for further restoration work, bringing It back to its former glory days. There is much more to say than can be said here and it really is a car that should be seen to appreciate its condition.Hence I am happy to answer questions forthcoming. The vehicle is available to view in the vicinity of Thame, Oxfordshire, UK. Cheers.Geoffrey
