null GT6 Fast back coupe

Up for auction is this rare 1972 Mk III GT6 fastback coupe (rally racer)  - This original nice GT6 straight six cylinder is very solid and has been modified and tuned for higher performance in preparation for road rally's. She is sporting larger 1-3/4 SUs and intake along with a performance cam and other items.   Hood has a vintage style hood bump to accommodate the larger carbs and ram intakes just like the historical Spit-GT's of the famous Le Mans race. I have only seen this on two other GT6's from historic photos.   The car has been fully serviced for the 2014 season and has many new parts. hoses and brakes.   She is running good and has great torque.   Imagine an enclosed large go-Kart with a big performance six cylinder that you can drive on the road.   Add a roll cage and fuel cell and you are ready for Le Mans. or at least vintage racing! Of course you can just still drive it on the road too.   Leave the 240 & 260 Z cars in the rear view mirror.   I have read that the Japs based and copied the early Datsun Z cars off this great truly Iconic Triumph GT6. Go Triumph!  These cars are great investments. there are not that many good ones left around.   A 1969 Triumph GT6 race car broke a world record price last year at RM auctions in Monterey CA. . selling for $55. 00… wow! That's big money even for a #1 quality TR3. but a GT6?  The seller was Group 44. check it out; Classic Motorsports Magazine did a whole article on it.   Prices are skyrocketing for GT6's now. get one while you still can and this one is a good one.

The car has original paint and patina. 95. 000 miles and everything is good working order. Engine would have been rebuilt when race parts were added. when that was. I don't know? If you want to race it. then more needs to be done.   If you don't like the old race theme. the decals can easily be taken off. There is some paint fading and chips and a small dent. in addition some blistering on one of the rockers due to a blocked weep hole at one time in its life. but not bad and is solid including pans.   In all. a nice 15 footer. The interior is in good shape.

I understand I am the third owner.   The second owner got the car from an estate of a Triumph fanatic and gear head.   That first owner was the one setting it up to race?  The second owner that I got it from had no idea what he had or anything about it.   He didn't even know how to drive the car or that it had a choke and let it sit in storage for many years only starting it up occasionally.   I purchase the car with the intent you do road rallies and maybe convert it to a true race car down the road. I am only selling it because I started a second corporation and don't see me having the time for at least five years and storage is tight. I have five other classic British sports cars. Austin Healey. MG's etc.  I've gone through the car and. put lots new parts on it. breaks pads. brake hoses. some lines. rebuilt the carbs. all new fluids and filter etc. . and got it running good again.   She is so happy and roaring once again.   Please Note. A bit of History: The talented Italian stylist Giovanni Michelotti was essentially Triumph's house designer in the early 1960s. The Spitfire 4 of 1963 was a particularly nice effort on his part. far prettier than the big TR sports cars that he also penned. When the Standard Triumph works competition team fitted an aerodynamic hard top to the car for a highly successful campaign at the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans. the marketing people began to think about adding a neat little coupe to the Spitfire line.   The final changes came for the 1971 model year with the Mk III which got a simpler revised (but still effective) rear suspension and a general clean-up again by Michelotti to mirror the Kamm tail of the new Spitfire. It's a bit of a toss-up as to which is prettier. the Mk I or Mk III. Both are quite nice. but the Mk III performs  and handles much better.
