1971 Chevrolet C10 Pickup

The Chevrolet C-10 designation can be confusing at times, with the C-10, C-20, C-30, and then the line of K designations to throw in as well. The difference between C & K is C is 2-wheel drive, and K is 4-wheel drive. The numerical designation denotes weight maximum. 10 is 1/2 ton, 20 is 3/4 ton, and 30 is 1 ton.

For consignment, a C, (2-wheel drive), 10, (1/2 ton), pickup from 1971, however this one houses a few secrets of its own. Closely resembling the original truck but this one has definitely been made pro touring. All straight panels, a monster power plant and transmission, a new dash, and several other secrets to be revealed coming right up.

Exterior
Excellent straight panels, good gapping, a new scooped hood, a later model step side bed in the back and extending around to the rear bumper, one can have access to the bed from all points around this truck. All this bathed in stunning red with a black stripe on the hood and black covering the cab top. Perfectly placed rubber gripping has been put on these steps to secure your footing along with chrome grab handles running along the top of the bed. In the front of the truck the grille has been modified and has multiple horizontal chrome bars running between the headlights. A note to the bed which has beautiful oak boards with chrome divider strips. Snazzy chrome 16" wheels are all around and shine over the red on the corners. All chrome is in very good condition on this restored truck.

Interior
Swinging open the door and we see a mixture of red steel and plastic covering the doors. The steel is the upper and lower of the door with the plastic panel centrally located and housing the door release and armrest and a Sheridan pattern to break things up a little. A wood rimmed 3 spoke steering wheel fronts the red padded dashboard. The dash is all C10 and has upgraded Bosch white faced gauges to monitor engine vitals along with an AM/FM/CD player and a mirror polished glovebox door. Below the dash is a polished aluminum panel with more gauges, an ignition button and switch along with power window switches and an engine fan controller. Modern black vinyl high back bucket seats flank a perfectly fit console. All of this floats in a sea of red carpeting with a long tall shifter poking up well within the driver's reach. A black plastic headliner hangs above and contains an integrated console as well as speakers for your listening pleasure.

Drivetrain
Lifting open the steel scooped hood we are met with an expertly redone engine bay in red which houses a 502ci V8 Dart Big M engine making a consignor stated 680hp. This engine is topped with aluminum cylinder heads, an aluminum intake manifold, a Quickfuel 4bbl carburetor and a twin induction air cleaner assembly. All engine accessories, including power steering and AC, are either chrome or polished and everything is clean as a whistle. A 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission is on the back and sends power to a 12-bolt rear axle.

Undercarriage
Completely devoid of any rust, we see lots of new black respray. Frame is very sturdy as are the floorpans. Power disc brakes are up front, and drums on the rear. We see independent coil springs for the front suspension and a 3 link with coil springs and a sway bar for the rear suspension. Ceramic coated headers with electric cutouts send spent fossils back through Flowmaster mufflers and out the back of the truck.

Drivability
With the push of a button the truck roared to life, and I knew it meant business. I slipped the shifter into drive, and I was off in a flash. Brutal, lightning fast acceleration, great stopping and splendid handling that was not even remotely trucklike. I enjoyed all this from the luxury of an air conditioned cab and even took the time to open up the exhaust cutouts and wake up my partner in crime who was napping away on a golf cart.

A bad to the bone pro touring 1971 C-10 that hasn't lost its truck roots. Meticulously restored with no expense spared on the build and a late model step side bed makes this a truly unique and powerful build. A great interior and a bunch of modern creature comforts, and we have a great one with a ton of secrets!
