The Chimaera was first produced in 1992 and continued in production until 2003. The name was derived from Chimera, the monstrous creature of Greek mythology, which was made of the parts of multiple animals. It was designed by Peter Wheeler and John Ravenscroft.
The car was based on the Griffith running gear and chassis, and was fitted with a slightly softer suspension set up, with Bilstein dampers and a rear anti-roll bar. The car was provided with a 4.0ltr or 4.3ltr version of the Rover V8, as fitted to the Griffith, but with catalytic converters to meet 1993 regulations. In 1993 the Chimaera became TVR's biggest selling car and remained in that position until 1998. There were about 6000 produced, and there are more Chimaeras on the road than the total TVR's produced over the preceding 25 years.

Provenance:

It was supplied new on August 1st 1994 by Prentice Ltd TVR Main Agents of Portadown to Mr McGerr finished in a stunning green metallic with contrasting grey interior and a black hood.

With just one keeper and only 7000 miles from new this really is an opportunity to purchase a time warp unrestored British motoring icon. After many years of storage and light usage the vehicle has recently been recommissioned here at SMC Heritage including complete overhaul of engine, running gear and serviceable items. The car is supplied with the original leather bound handbook and service book stamped by Prentice TVR.


Exterior:

Evidently having always been garaged the metallic green paint is in fantastic order throughout. The contrasting black hood is immaculate and taught and the plastic rear window still clear and bright. The alloy wheels are as new and shod with continental tyres.


Interior:

The interior is a fabulous place to reside with two tone grey leather over light green carpets. The switch gear is complete and fully functional and the carpets are unworn. The vehicle has a period correct pioneer head unit to match the walnut centre dash centre.
