Only one Ecto-1 and one Ecto-1a (part 2 car) were ever built and screen used for the filming of Ghostbusters. Sony still owns the cars and have no intention of selling them any time soon. This Ecto-1 is as close to a screen used car as you can get. It has had a "screen used" life in show business since the 1960's. including a scene in 1967 movie “The Heat of the Night” featuring Sidney Poitier. After being retired from screen use. it was converted to an Ecto-1 and restored by a picture car company for exhibition use. We purchased this car and have displayed it in our museum for just over 10 years; and it has proven to be a crowd favorite. It has helped raise thousands of dollars for charity and generated revenue with appearance / rental fee's. It has also come out of retirement recently and will be seen on the screen again in the near future as a feature item on A&E's hit TV show. Shipping Wars.
The 59 Cadillac commercial vehicle is a rare car anyway you slice it. Only about 200 of these hearse / ambulances were ever built. There are only 8 known legit Ecto-1 replicas in America. making this a rare opportunity.
This car has always been a dry climate car and has not suffered any note worthy rust damage. It was professionally repainted about 20 years ago. The paint is holding up very nicely but does show some minor patina. The interior was restored as were the mechanics. An aftermarket A/C unit was added to the car for driver comfort in parades and events. The engine bay has been nicely detailed as well. The chrome is in outstanding original condition with no peeling. pitting or major faults. Has functional roof lights with concealed speakers to play the Ghostbusters theme song.
Car comes with a Volo Auto Museum Certificate of Authenticity as an Exhibition Vehicle and for its TV use.
