One of the many great things about the muscle car era was the Detroit automakers ability to inject excitement and performance into EVERY model on their showroom floors. That translated to awesome ground pounding machines for virtually every buyer and a healthy list of go-fast options which allowed those buyers to specify whatever combination of equipment they wanted. Take. for example. this 1968 Plymouth GTX. Dressed in a unique bronze on black color combination. rocking a big block 440 Super Commando V8 under its hood and equipped with a super rare dealer installed dual quad intake. it's the kind of car you can take to the local strip to beat up crosstown rivals. or take on an everyday grocery run. If you're in the market for an exceptionally restored. investment grade Mopar muscle car that will provide years of fond memories and has all the right stuff to continue gaining value for the long term. this 1968 GTX is your ticket!

As the beneficiary of a full rotisserie restoration that was completed in September of 2010. this GTX exactly replicates its fender tag specifications right down to its original style redline tires:

This stunning three owner 1968 Plymouth GTX is one of the finest Mopar muscle cars on the planet! Its complete rebuild began when Dale Wamsley of Just Metal Restorations meticulously stripped its solid original body down to bare metal and block sanded every facet into a smooth. consistent canvas. Once the cars factory accurate panels were fully prepped from beginning to end. a correct coat of Chrysler code M Turbine Bronze Metallic was expertly applied under correct black horizontal side stripes and buffed to a brilliant wet-look shine that can only be achieved with today's highly advanced paint technology. Take one look down the sides of this old school Plymouth and it becomes very apparent that it's tough. slab-sided body has been straightened and finessed until it looks smoother and lines up better than anything that rolled out of a factory in 1968. Pull the car into the sun light and its glossy urethane paint accurately reproduces Chrysler's unique bronze hue all the while protecting it under a tough and durable clearcoat shell. All that staring and comparing adds up to one super slick Mopar muscle car which wraps brutal performance and a high level of accuracy in classic lines with killer good looks.

With its impressive attention to detail. I suspect this GTX will be one of those classics that someone sees. falls in love with and buys right off the showroom floor. At the front of the car. a body-width chrome trimmed grille centers a silver "GTX" emblem between four clear headlights. a good looking body-width chrome bumper and clear. square parking lights. Above that grille. the cars smooth bronze hood. which wears two hood scoops that display subtle "440" emblems to would-be stoplight challengers. flows toward like-new glass that is cleared by stainless wipers. shielded by chrome drip rails and framed by original stainless trim. Below that glass. multi-faceted body panels. which add an unmistakable vintage flavor to the design. are detailed with cool round marker lights and giant rear mounted "GTX" emblems; and correct stainless wheel trim hangs good looking stainless rocker mouldings below traditional chrome door handles and a pristine driver's side mirror. At the back of the car. an original anodized rear valence displays a centered "Plymouth" script and chrome "GTX" emblem between elaborate tail lights and clear reverse lights; and a second body-width chrome bumper perfectly complements polished stainless exhaust tips.

Fully detailed. covered in Plymouth turquoise and currently wearing only break-in miles since a complete rebuild. this slick Plymouths 440 cubic inch Super Commando V8 is spectacular in every measurable way! The coolest thing about this legendary Chrysler mill is its dual quad Edelbrock intake that. according to a story passed down with the title and a dealer warranty sticker that's still present in the driver's side door jamb. is a correct dealer installed piece which is original to the car. At the top of that intake. two modern carburetors. which have been blasted to appear vintage. sip fuel through fresh stainless fuel lines and suck air through a fresh re-usable filter element that is clamped into a chrome Edelbrock air cleaner. At the base of that intake. a correct points distributor sends fire through Autolite Professional plug wires. And at the sides of that intake. restored original exhaust manifolds send spent gases into a great sounding true dual exhaust system. Cooling for the big engine is provided by the cars original. re-cored 26 inch Chrysler radiator which sits in front of a correct seven blade fan and an original fan shroud. And like the engine itself. the cars Turbine Bronze Metallic engine bay is highly detailed and exceptionally impressive from its correct master cylinder. rebuilt wiper motor and correctly tagged reproduction Mopar yellow cap battery to its correct hoses. correct clamps and reproduction Chrysler washer tank.

This GTX definitely has the performance to back up its sinister good looks; and with the awesome Chrysler big blocks excellent low end acceleration. you can rest assured that the cars undercarriage is chock-full of some of the best performance hardware to ever make its way out of Auburn Hills. Michigan. Behind the big bore engine you'll find a freshly rebuilt A833 18 spline 4-speed manual transmission which sends power to a correct Dana 60 Sure Grip rear end that's stuffed with stout 3. 54 gears. Naturally. the front torsion bar and rear leaf spring suspension has been completely restored and includes: a rebuilt manual steering system. new rear springs and new shocks at every wheel. At the center of the car. a free flowing 2. 5 inch aluminized exhaust system sends spent gases through an H-pipe crossover to two chamber Turbo mufflers and traditional stainless tips. And at the corners of the car. new stainless brake lines and new brake hoses supply fully rebuilt factory front disc and rear drum brakes which sit behind mandatory chrome Magnum 500 wheels and meaty 215/70 Turbo-Tech redline tires. The cars restored floors have been coated in the same Turbine Bronze Metallic that you'll find on both its exterior panels and inner fenders; and everything from its new stainless fuel tank to its fresh stainless chassis bolts presents just as well as when it rolled out of the restoration shop.

This Plymouths fender tag says it was originally equipped with an S6X Black interior; and accordingly. it has been restored with a roster of reproduction parts which provide the kind of jaw-dropping good looks you just can't find in today's cars. The rear bench and the front buckets seats are firm and. despite being traditional muscle car vinyl. feel much more upscale than most. At the bottom of those seats. new black carpet props a correct Hurst shifter in the middle of a correct. chrome trimmed center console; and at the top of the seats. a tight black headliner frames a correct dome light. The cars pristine. wood trimmed dash hangs fully rebuilt gauges. which include an offset tachometer. beside an original two watt Solid State AM radio which sports Chrysler's cool thumb-wheel knobs. In front of the driver. a restored. wood rimmed steering wheel sits on a rebuilt original steering column. At the sides of the seats. correct door panels hang new armrests among fresh stainless trim. new Woodgrain applique and correct gloss black door frames. And behind the cockpit. a fully restored trunk props a full-size spare tire between a reproduction mat and a correct decklid decal.

Included with the sale of this awesome GTX is a small album of restoration photos.

With a highly detailed restoration that was completed by expert Mopar builders. this awesome '68 GTX is about as close to original as a restored car can get. It's fast. comfortable. stylish. and when you take a minute to look at the quality of its workmanship. you realize that the cost of restoring it to this level is about twice what it takes to drive it out of our RK Motors Charlotte showroom. If you're in the market for an old school. investment grade muscle car that will gain value while you're enjoying it for years to come. this broad shouldered Plymouth is just what you've been looking for!
