Car & Driver magazine wrote the following about the 240Z back in June of 1970. “Datsun didn't invent the overhead cam engine. or disc brakes. or independent suspension but it has a habit of incorporating these sophisticated systems into brilliantly conceived and easily affordable cars. ”  These cars are absolutely wonderful to drive and one of the best Japan had to offer at the time.   We are just entering the dawn of Japanese cars catching the collector car audience’s attention.

 

This Datsun was sold new on November 15. 1971 by Quality Datsun Imports dealership in Orange. California.   The car was used as a daily driver for the next 14-years until the owner passed away.   His wife kept the car garaged and continued to lightly drive it and maintain it.   Sometime in their ownership. they had the car repainted.   The metallic blue shade of the new paint is slightly off from its original shade (seen by the original paint in the engine compartment).   In 2007. the wife decided to sell the car.   The next owner had the car for a few years and only put a few thousand miles on it.   While he owned it. he had the manual transmission rebuilt.   He then sold it to the current owner in 2010.

 

The current owner is an enthusiast of vintage Japanese cars and has several excellent Datsun/Nissan examples.   Unfortunately. he simply doesn’t have the time to enjoy this car.   Since he has had the car. he has replaced the suspension including new Tokiko springs and KYB shocks and struts.   He has also installed a complete new steering rack with upgraded polyurethane bushings.

 

This 240Z drives great.   It starts up easily and shifts very smoothly.   It would make a great vehicle for vintage touring events.

 

The paint is an older repaint in decent condition with minimal signs of use.   The dealer-installed aluminum mag wheels are original to the car and look great.   If the buyer wishes. we can provide a complete set of original steel wheels with hubcaps at an additional fee.   The interior is equally nice.   The seats are in excellent shape with no tears and minimal wear.   The dash looks perfect with no cracks or warping.   The headliner is also nice and looks new.   Everything appears to operate as it should except for the clock and the rear defrost switch.   Even the A/C blows cold and has recently been recharged with R12.  

 

California registration is paid through September of 2014.

 

This Datsun includes the original front over-rider bumper bars (see photo). the original warranty booklet/warranty card. and most CA DMV registration slips from new.
