At RK Motors Charlotte. we sell more Mopar muscle than just about anyone on the planet. And while there are a few pro-tourers thrown into that mix. the vast majority of those cars are immaculately restored show queens that spend most of their days as high dollar eye candy. But what about the classic car collector who wants a ride they can both show AND enjoy? No worries. we have something for you too! This awesome GTX. which is still equipped with its original 440 6 Barrel V8. is the kind of classic that'll show. and go. just as well as its trophy winning brethren. The only difference is: it doesn't require multiple bank signatures to finance. So. if you're ready for some old school Detroit muscle that can be driven without fear. take a look at this bright purple Plymouth!

A simple breakdown of the car's original fender tag confirms the authenticity of its restoration.

This slick coupe's high quality. frame-up restoration began with what appears to be a solid. rust-free body. That body was painstakingly stripped. sanded and massaged to better-than-new condition. Once those massaged panels were correctly aligned. and the car's intimidating ambiance fully reconstructed. a smooth coat of Chrysler code FC7 In Violet was laid under traditional transverse stripes. And the result is an ultra-straight. fully detailed pavement pounder that inspires comments and elicits stares every time it hits the road.

Every bit of this Mopar's bright ornamentation is extremely clean and looks excellent against Plymouth's glossy In Violet hue. And while it's really hard to determine whether all those baubles and bolt-ons are original. they certainly look nice! At the front of the car. a black honeycomb grille hangs a bold "GTX" script between four halogen headlamps. a good looking chrome bumper and crystal clear parking lights. Behind that grille. a correct air grabber hood centers an otherwise wind-cheating scoop between a small "PLYMOUTH" emblem. loud "440+6" decals and satin-finished windshield wipers. Above that hood. like-new glass rides between a correct vinyl roof. well-maintained trim and a small driver's mirror. Below that glass. slab-sided body panels. which do a great job of conveying Plymouth's classic broad-shouldered design language. hang aggressive "GTX" emblems between dent-free wheel lip mouldings. stylish side scoops and traditional Chrysler door handles. And at the back of the car. a traditional black valence centers crystal clear tail lamps between a satin black decklid spoiler. a fourth "GTX" emblem. a wide-set "PLYMOUTH" script. a second chrome bumper and spotless stainless exhaust tips.

Lift the car's long. professionally finished hood and you'll find an original 440 cubic inch RB V8 that hangs a correct 2536430 casting number and January 15th. 1970 casting date above a matching 198355 partial VIN. More popular than Chrysler's famed HEMI. and almost as feared. Plymouth's 390 horsepower. 440 6 Barrel powerplant was designed to be the industry's best combination of comfort. streetability and big block performance. Oxygen whips through the car's functional air grabber hood into a correctly decaled cleaner that rides on three Holley carburetors and a Hemi Orange intake. At the front of that intake. a correct points distributor sequences fire into a fresh set of Electronic Suppression wires. At the sides of that intake. Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correctly restored exhaust manifolds. Cooling is supplied by a correct 26-inch radiator that utilizes pliable hoses and simple squeeze clamps to send water past fresh V-belts and rebuilt engine accessories. And power is provided by a reproduction Mopar red cap battery. Aesthetically. the entire engine bay looks spectacular. from its old school decals and purple inner fenders to its Pentastar washer reservoir and rebuilt horn. And functionally. one quick turn of the car's ignition switch results in a rumbling high-performance idle. hot or cold.

This Plymouth's chassis specs leave little question as to why Chrysler's B-body architecture was such a huge hit with performance car fans. Take a step under our lift and you'll find a tough ol' stoplight skeleton that's been maintained to the same high standards as the car's bright engine bay and shiny exterior panels. Behind the thumpin' Chrysler RB. a correct A727 Torqueflite 3-speed twists a familiar Chrysler rear end around fully streetable gears. Below that proven drivetrain. a heavy duty front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension has been methodically rebuilt to include factory power steering. a correct sway bar and sturdy drum brakes. Above that proven drivetrain. solid floors are layered in weather-resistant undercoating and dressed in items like a modern fuel tank and leak-free fluid lines. Exhaust is handled by free-flowing. 2. 5-inch pipes which jettison cooked dinosaurs via traditional turbo mufflers and spotless stainless tips. And power flows to the pavement through a fresh set of 15-inch Rallye wheels which spin meaty 235/60 front and 255/60 rear BF Goodrich Radial T/As around chrome lug nuts. silver centerpieces. and satin trim rings.

Counter to today's obsession with technology and convenience. it seems old school American muscle cars only needed black vinyl. a bit of wood trim and essential instrumentation to strike a perfect balance of 'instantly classic' and 'perpetually cool'. And when you open this coupe's solid doors. you'll find a cockpit where legendary Mopar power melds seamlessly with a stylish. no-nonsense driving environment. At the center of the floors. firm front bucket and rear bench seats have been stuffed with fresh padding and topped with correct silver-piped and Plymouth-embossed covers. At the sides of those seats. weather-free door panels hang chrome-seated armrests below bright wood trim and correct black frames. At the bottom of those door panels. good looking carpet is protected by heavy duty rubber floor mats. On top of that carpet. a wood-trimmed console anchors a curved shifter between bright courtesy lamps. And opposite that console. a tight black headliner is stretched around straight roof bows and a fully functional dome light. The car's classy dash hangs fully functional gauges between a correct radio and a red air grabber switch. In front of the driver. a monochromatic steering wheel spins a silver horn ring around a cool Mayflower centerpiece. And behind the cockpit. the car's fully restored trunk is authentic all the way down to its full-size spare tire. refurbished jack and centered decklid decal.

The sale of this super cool Plymouth includes an original broadcast sheet. an original owner's manual and a couple of recent maintenance receipts.

Pristine show queens are great. but classics like this road-ready GTX are what make the hobby so much fun. It combines a roster of impressive ingredients with a price that's substantially lower than most finicky garage fodder. And best of all. you'll have a fully sorted street fighter that can be driven for years to come! If you're ready to relive the golden age of Detroit in a muscle car you can actually enjoy. don't miss the chance to bring home this awesome purple Mopar!
