We all LOVE a Special car. and we all LOVE a great story to go along with that Special car. I have had the privilege of knowing this Rover. who has affectionally been named "Eric". for the last 16+ years!! Below is his interesting family history. and of course. his story!

Greetings to All!! imotors is quite pleased to offer possibly the Finest and Most Original Rover 3500S NADA available anywhere! Way back in 1997. my great long time friend John. who is an avid collector. and just LOVES his cars brought this 3500S to my car lot. and asked me if I wanted to "partner up" and purchase it with him from it's long term enthusiast owner. WHAT????. I said. THAT ugly thing. Are you nuts????? It had to be the strangest car I had ever seen. and the COLOR. how hideous it was. Looked like diahrrea!! So. needless to say. he bought it anyway. and split the $2700. 00 cost with his wife Barbara. The Rover immediatey became a cherished member of the family. and was named "Eric".

Now. John had seen this car for years in the British car circles and shows here in Pittsburgh. as he had a 1964 S-Type Jaguar that he had owned since the late sixties. which he just sold about 4 years ago. The P6 had frequented the same British car shows as the Jag. and had won many First Place trophies in the mid eighties. which are photographed below. and included in the sale. John became friendly with "Rover George". as he was called. and immediately purchased the 3500S when it became available. with about 50. 00 miles on the clock.

As you will see in the many photos below. "Rover George" purchased it in March of 1976 from Bashford Motors. the local Land Rover/Rover/Saab dealer with a scant 21. 00 miles on the clock. He must have loved this car from the very beginning. as is evident by it's fantastic. unmolested. original condition. and of course. his long term ownership of 21 years!! He only drove it an average of about 1500 miles per year before selling it to John and Barb in 1997.

As with all of John's cars. Eric was always garaged and pampered. He was driven very sparingly. as John and Barb had numerous cars to enjoy. including the RHD 1964 S-Type. and a rare 1978 yellow Alfa Spider that they purchased together way before Eric came along!

John and Eric frequented the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. and British Cars at Hartwood. among other events for many many years. with the S-Type by it's side(If you Google "Rover 3500S". and click on images. you will see them side by side in many pictures). Being used so infrequently Eric remained in the Spectacular original condition that you see him in today. with only 56. 00 actual miles. He was NEVER driven in inclement weather. and always stored inside and covered. I don't think anyone ever sat in the back seat as long as they owned him!!

Fast forward to about 2 months ago. John is now in his early seventies. and has decided to downsize his "collection". He recently. within the last 6 months or so. has sold off most of his "Old Cars". as he calls them. to include a 1980 Ferrari 308. and a 1988 911 Anniversary edition. He still has a few left. but REALLY surprised me when he wanted to sell Eric. I secretly had always been a bit disappointed with myself for not buying him in '97. so I jumped at the chance to buy him now. BEFORE he changed his mind! I have played with him a bit. with great enjoyment. and now it's time to find him a new caretaker.

Eric is essentially Exactly the way that he left Solihull in 1969. AND Exactly the way that John purchased him from Rover George in 1997. The brand new at the time Minilite wheels were added sometime in the early 2000's with a set of Kumho's(the left front is  mis-matched. nd more recent). and we have the original wheels and wheel discs if you would like them. From what I can see. both front and both rear fenders have been painted at sometime in the ancient past. If you peel back the rubber on the trunk lid. you can see it used to be blue. indicating replacement. As I know Eric's history intimately since 1997. all of this cosmetic work was done prior to John's purchase. The four doors. and. I believe the roof. are original paint. As the doors had the original painted pin stripes that were somewhat worn in spots. and the rest was tape. we decided to re-stripe the entire car with tape. You will notice in the many many photos below that there is some slight mis-match. As this paintwork was done many many years ago. I decided to leave it as is. There was a rust spot about 3-4 inches long in right rear the door jamb that John tells me  "It was there when I bought it. and has stayed exactly the same". My good friend and expert bodyman Chris cosmetically repaired this. as it just looked horrible. He also gave Eric a good hard wet sanding and buffing(about 20-25 hours) to return him to his present shiny self. Yes. there are some blemishes and some spots that are a tad thin. but he is still quite handsome in the looks department!!!

During John's long term ownership. he had minimal mechanical issues with his beloved Eric!! Both brake master cylinders have been rebuilt over the years. along with the starter and solenoid. and the neutral safety switch. John had a starter button installed on the left side of the dash. as his mechanic could not figure out why Eric would sometimes start with the twist of the key. and sometimes not. If not. just push the starter button. and "Voila". The manual choke. also on the left side of the dash had been installed many years before John's ownership. Give it a pull. and he starts immediately every time. Also. the brake warning light will illuminate on occasion. We don't know why. My guess is a bad sensor in one of the fluid reservoirs. Other than these very minor issues over the last 16 years. this Rover 3500S had been a pleasure to own. and was virtually trouble free. Especially for an antique car.

Our Rover 3500S runs and drives absolutely Fantastic!!! There are no unpleasant noises. or shakes. Nice and smooth with no vibration. or pulling. The 3. 5 Litre V8 starts immediately. and settles into a nice smooth burbble. Eric still retains all of his original parts under the bonnett. to include the twin SU Carburettors. and all of his pollution bits. The automatic gearbox shifts nice and smooth with no noticeable issues. As you will notice in the many detailed photos below. Originality is abundant to include all stickers and labels that were affixed when new. We did some very light cleaning as to not disturb or damage anything!

Eric's interior is also totally 100% original. The seats are covered in the factory issued "Buckskin" ambla. and are just Gorgeous. There is a very slight wear spot on the drivers bolster that we plan to have repaired. All of his wood is unmarked. and looks as good as it did back in 1970 when new. with none of the typical cracks. or nicks. You will notice that this spectacular P6 has NEVER been smoked in!! When was the last time that you saw 2 original complete and unused ashtrays. one in front. and one in the rear. along with an original lighter!  When one of the master cylinders started to go bad. brake fluid leaked inside. onto the drivers carpet. I decided to pull the seats out. in order to remove the carpets for easier cleaning. While the seats were out. I took several photos of the original painted and rust free floors. along with just the carpets installed. so you can see how nice they are. These are shown below. Everything inside works great. including all 4 Power windows. and all of the gauges. The factory installed Air Conditioning blows ice cold. and is still charged with R12 Freon. John has never recharged it during his ownership. Even the Icelert is functioning as designed. Sometime early on. an AM FM 8 track was installed with 2 speakers just sitting on the rear package shelf. You can see the speaker wires running across the center in the rear. It does work. but Eric certainly would benefit from an updated system!

Rover P6's are Extremely rare. Especially V8's in this unrestored original condition. Federal models. or NADA as they are referred to. are just about extinct. as very few were exported here!!  In all of the years that I have known John and Eric. I have NEVER seen another. As these cars were very prone to the merciless rust demon. most are either scrapped by now. have been patched up and redone. or left neglected to die. This one is ALL Original!!!! It has always been garaged and pampered. has been driven regularly in the summer months to keep it's vital juices flowing. Yes it is almost 45 years old. and is far from perfect. But is absolutely Gorgeous!!!  Please keep this in mind while bidding. Inspections are welcomed and encouraged. All e-mails and questions will be answered as quickly as possible.

Please take a look at the 140 photographs below and see the actual pristine condition of this One of A Kind Rover P6 3500S Saloon.
