Cutlass SX W32 Convertible

Combining Olds performance and luxury was the aim of the newly introduced Cutlass. which debuted in 1970 as a two-door hardtop or a convertible model. The SX was basically a Cutlass performance option. a more luxurious but only slightly tamer 442. It featured the 455-cid V-8 engine (rated at 365 hp) and included beefed up suspension and shocks. the heavy duty Turbo 400 Hydromatic transmission. rear bumper with cutouts for flared dual exhaust tips. The W32 gave you the same engine as the 442. high compression. more cam. bigger valves. The W32 was only built for two years and the SX was built only two years. but The SX W32 was only built one year. In 1969 you could get the W32 in the 442 model with a 400 cid. but in 1970 you could only get the W32 in a Cutlass SX and it came with the 455 cid. A SX could be ordered in 1970 and 1971 but 70 was the only year they offered both (the SX and the W32).

So. what is a Cutlass SX W32? A Cutlass Supreme with 442 options. Best of both worlds! Supreme ride and handling with the power of a 442! So it was the first and last of it's kind!

6. 04 SX hardtops were built in 1970. and 793 Y-79 SX convertibles. Current records show 862 W32's built. but no records of how many convertibles were W32's. Needless to say. but safe to say. very little! Maybe a lot less than 100? In the last 26 yrs. . I have found only 1 other 1970 SX W32 Convertible and it was in Europe.

The car is factory Triple Black which has been Documented by Olds History Center. It was taken down to bare metal and re-painted less than a year ago. The motor (Numbers Matching) was rebuilt to factory original appearing but putting out close to 500hp with less than 200 miles on it. Transmition is also Numbers Matching. I have two sets of tires and rims. both with factory original color. One set are Goodyear Polyglass for show and one set with tires for cruising and comfort.

Collecting trophies has never been my passion. but my favorite was winning best of show at Byron Dragway. Byron Ill. in the Performance Chapter Nationals show. May 31st 2003)!      Joe Mondello. nbsp;THE DR. Olds and the father of the W Machines. nbsp;recognizing & appreciating the rarity of the car. picked it as the best of show and we had our picture taken with him. Joe was a really great guy and down to earth! Joe has since passed away.

The W32 has been in the family for almost 26 years and has always been taken very good care of. We have had tremendous fun showing this car that is so rare! Very few people know what an SX is and even fewer know or even heard of a W32. I will be happy to take pictures of anything not shown in the listing and will forward by email upon request. If you appreciate owning something you'll probably never run into again. this car is for you!  This may be the only time you ever see a 70 SX W32 Convertible offered for sale!

Remember. this is not a 442! but rather a much rarer Muscle Car!

I do still have the car and do not know how it even got listed here as I only tried selling one time before and it wasn't here. The car could be for sale, but it will not be cheap!
