1973 Citroen DS23 Pallas. carburettor/5 speed manual.

A genuine 2 owner Pallas in spectacular unrestored condition with 78000 miles (126k klm) recorded. Left hand drive.

Stunningly finished in Beige Tholonet (code AC085)  with a black roof (code AC200). black hide and grey carpets. all as original.

Costing over 27000 Francs new. and ordered with the expensive Blaupunkt radio option. M. Savry in Montargis bought this DS23 Pallas on March 9th 1973. selling to a M. Baker in 1990. a resident of Landes in South West France. who kept it until our acquisition. This is the ultimate version of the DS. with the biggest 2347cc engine which produces 115bhp and a 190kph top speed. The DS23 also included a number of improvements over previous models making them quieter and more refined.

An original Pallas. our car is the more desirable Weber carburettor version and is fitted with the 5 speed manual transmission. arguably then the ultimate DS set-up. avoiding the marmite semi-auto gearbox and fire prone fuel injection system.

Body

With a receipted £6500 repaint in 2012 in the super cool original colour scheme. the painting was carried out on a sound body. which had been professionally rust proofed early in the cars life. The end result is quite magnificent. with arrow straight sides. no orange peel and a deep and consistent shine throughout. Absolutely no rust anywhere on this car. and pictures of the rust prone chassis areas are included here. All the rare Pallas trim is present and in generally excellent condition. The glass is undamaged and bumpers and hub caps are dent free. The wheels have just been blasted and repainted in the original grey (code RAL 7044).

Mechanics

Newly MOTd. this DS has just had two new Michelin XAS tyres fitted and a service including replacing the main brake accumulator. new plugs. distributor cap. HT leads and tune up. Other recent work includes replacement of all 4 spheres (2012)  and replacement of exhaust and main accumulator. There are many service receipts in the history file. and the car has clearly been well looked after. It starts on the button and drives without fault. The under bonnet is nicely detailed with factory finishes throughout. and a full compliment of tools accompany the car.

Interior

This in some respects is the car's best feature. Entirely original. it is in quite superb condition. with perfect black hides and undamaged dashboard. The headlining is unmarked. as are the door cards. The carpets are generally excellent with the exception of some light staining to the driver's footwell. It goes without saying it is an unbelievably comfortable place to sit.

In unmarked condition. with original materials throughout.

Summary

An increasingly rare find in low ownership. unrestored condition as good as this. our DS23 Pallas is a fantastic running and looking example. offered with a good history file including many service and repair invoices and the original owner's manual. fresh MOT and tax (the car will be tax free from next year).

As the so usable DS23 now eclipses the value of the SM. this top end Pallas is exceptional value at £24995.
