1987 Bentley Eight

This car. finished in Brewster Green with tan hides. is one of 1736 Bentley Eights produced by Rolls Royce during the timeframe of 1984 through 1992.

The Eight is distinctive in the Bentley lineup as it is considered one of the models that convinced Rolls that Bentley owners sought greater performance and handling; Today. we see Bentley as a completely different marque. providing exceptional cars with a sporting pedigree.
The Eight has a shorter wheelbase than the Mulsanne or Brooklands. and a firmer suspension. yet the same 6. 7 liter V8 (fuel injected) is under the hood.

The Eight also eschewed the traditional burl walnut - instead. Eight's have solid Hickory throughout - a beautitful change. This car's woodwork is in exceptional condition.

Most Eight's have a 15" tire with an aluminum wheel. I have upgraded this car with the 17" Bentley Turbo R wheels. I was able to source them in England. and the wheels alone cost more than $3. 00. While the correct tire is an Avon Turbosteel. I went with Pirelli Scorpion Zeros - they are perfectly sized for the car and give it a great stance.

Next. many Eight's have a single rectangular headlight on each side. similar to the Rolls Royce of the same vintage. I have upgraded this car with the classic Bentley double headlights. I think that this is a sympathetic upgrade that brings out the muscular character of the car and these double headlights became a standard feature in Bentley's around this time.

Next. I have purchased lambswool overrugs from Easi-rider in England. These overrugs are simply incredible - my wife immediately takes her shoes off in this car; the lambswool is so soft and plush.

Lastly. having experience with these cars. I would like to make a somewhat contradictory point - these are British cars. hand-made and crafted. and low miles with long periods of sitting is not good for them. When you see a car listed with 20. 00 or 30. 00 miles. you are likely looking at a car that has had virtually no maintenance for years at a time. My car has 94. 07 miles. which is still only 3. 00 miles a year - but is has been consistently used. driven. and maintained. I would absolutely recommend a Rolls or Bentley that has over 100. 00 miles as it will likely give the new owner far less trouble than a car with dried out hoses and belts. dry bearings. with emulsified oil and separated radiator fluid.

This car is a joy to drive. can easily keep pace with modern traffic. and has a majestic presence and pace.
