Austin Healey 3000

Model History

The original Austin Healey 3000 has a 2912 cc I6 engine. with twin SU carburetors and Girling front disc brakes. It was only referred to as the Mark I after the Mark II was released. previously only being known as the 3000. Wire wheels. overdrive gearbox. a laminated windscreen. a heater. an adjustable steering column. a detachable hard top and two tone paint were all available as options. The original 3000 was built from March 1959 to March 1961 and has model designation BT7 Mark I (4-seat version) and BN7 Mark I (2-seater). A total of 13. 50 were made (2. 25 BN7 Mark I. and 10. 25 BT7 Mark I). [2] A BT7 3000 with hardtop and overdrive tested by The Motor magazine in 1960 had a top speed of 115 mph (185 km/h) and could accelerate from 0–60 mph (97 km/h) in 11. 7 seconds. A fuel consumption of 21. 6 miles per imperial gallon (13. 1 L/100 km; 18. 0 mpg-US) was recorded. The test car cost £1326 including taxes. [1]

More Details

The Herritage certificate confirms this beautiful Healey BN-7 MK1 was orginally sold new by a dealer in Los Angeles. Which is why it was picked to come back to the uk for a full nut and bolt restoration by a well known marque specilist . ho converted it back to RHD properley. The full nut and bolt restoration was done in approx 1998. There is full photographic and invoiced records in the history file . The specialist is so good . ogether with the car being pampered ever since. he car is of show quality . The detailed engine bay and underneath show a very well maintained car . Indeed the onlty rain the car has seen is on our trailer today !!!!
As well as beiing cosmeticallly superb and detailed . This Healey is mechanically superb and without fault. At time of resto it had a full engine rebuild and gearbox . xles . uspension etc etc . The horsepower was uprated at the same time to match the later cars . This was again done by the specialist . hanging the cam etc etc .
The milege shown is the mileage done since complete rebuild . ver the last 15 years .
The Factory hard top is a very rare option and no doubt took some finding . his is of course included with the car and not only rare but very useful if the car is to go on those long rally trips abroad etc
If you are looking for a superb example of a sort after early Healey. his is it !!!

Engine & Transmission

The engine is running superb. Having been rebuilt by marque specialist it is running correct oil pressure and sounds superb. The specialist builder took time to increase the horsepower with a higher lift cam etc . Again receipt for this is in the history file . The gearbox is sharp and precise. he overdrive switch has been moved to the gear shift. or the purpose of classic rallying making it easier to flick in and out should you so wish . The brakes etc are all excellent again limited mileage has been done since everything has been re-newed or rebuilt. The engine bay is detailed as is the car underneath . There are some very nice upgrades done sympathetically . A custom built ally radiator . washable mesh air filter for the twin carbs. onverted to electronic ignition within the original distributor. lternator instead of Dynamo etc .
Wheels. Tyres & Brakes
This Healey would have come originally with painted wires . It has now been treated to set of chrome wire and spinners to suit . This was done shortly after restoration and there is an invoice in the history file . They look superb against the Red paintwork . They are shod with full matching radials which have seen little mileage . The spare is matching and brand new
Exterior
The Colarado Red paintwork is faultless and arrow straight. The level of the coachwork is high . With excellent gaps all over . All the brightwork is again 1st class. The very rare works hardtop which is easily detachable. s very useful and looks fab . It is in near perfect condition . The sidescreens are also as new . The Black convertible hood and frame are as new .
