I bought this car whilst I was working in South Africa - like all South African MGA's. it was sent out from the UK as a kit of parts and then assembled in Durban.   From the car number. it looks to have been made around Dec 1956. so it must have been one of the first SA cars.   I brought it back to the UK in 2002.

It's some way from being concours. and no doubt the purist would find details that weren't correct.   Mechanically. nbsp; the engine runs well. doesn't use much if any oil and there aren't any funny noises. The clutch was replaced a few years ago. and the gearbox is OK.   I had a new wiring loom fitted about 10 years ago.   Overall I think it's in pretty  good overall shape. It's been driven regularly. if not terribly far in recent years.   As the pictures hopefully show. it's a good looking car.   Close up. the paintwork is now showing signs of age - I had it resprayed about 10 years ago. and there is now some bubbling and pimples in various places.

The seats  probably have  the original frames and base. but at some point before I bought the car. they were re-trimmed somewhat differently from the originals. but they look good.   The carpets are all good.   All the instruments work well. I had the fuel gauge rebuilt and matched to the sender so it's now accurate. You'll be pleased to hear that there's a CD player tucked away out of sight under the dash.   The battery is a modern single unit. and there is a power cut-off installed behind the passenger seat.   I had additional flasher units fitted just above the rear bumper as I didn't feel that the originals which are incorporated into the rear lights were up to modern traffic conditions.

The hood was replaced soon after I bought the car. and having almost never been up. looks new.   The tonneau is watertight.   The tyres are excellent radials all round. and the spare has never been  on the road. I do have the hubcaps. which come with proper MG badges.

I've got all the MOT's back to 2002 - the last one expired last month. The road tax expires in Aug 2014. but it's of course free anyway.

The registration number is quite distinctive  - GAS xxx - but  as an age-related number. it isn't transferable.

With a car that's the thick end of 60 years old. you really need to come and inspect it yourself and make up your own mind. so please contact me initially via e-mail.
