1972  Land Rover FC 101 Radio Body

This is a rare Radio Body. and one of the first few built.   I have been told it is body # 1 or 2.     As best I know. here is the history of the truck:     It was purchased by its first civilian owner  painted yellow and driven on a trip across parts of Africa.    You can see this vehicle in yellow and on that trip at “Drive the Globe” Overland Adventures on the internet / youtube channel.

The truck was returned to its original green camo paint scheme by the next owner.   The pictures included here are recent photos just taken.

Sometime after this trip the vehicle was sold to its 2nd owner.

I purchased the vehicle from him in 2011 and had a lot of work done on it by Southwest Rovers for me before driving it home to Texas.    One of the key modifications was the installation of a new. old stock. land rover overdrive unit.    The OD allows the truck to run 65MPH on the highway with low RPMs.   A list of most work is noted below.

I planned more modifications but other projects took priority and she has been in climate controlled storage most of the time I have owned it.  It's time to get the truck to someone who can appreciate what it and drive it more frequently.

This May the carburetors  were rebuilt. new brake cylinders installed. new fluid reservoirs for the clutch and brake installed and I  replaced the batteries with  two yellow top OPTIMA AGM batteries.  The truck starts easily. idles well and runs smoothly.

It recently passed safety inspection. all lights. horns and blinkers. windshield wipers and brakes work fine.

I have a set of two new doors for the driver and passenger side.   This includes both the top and bottom portions of the doors and new seals!    They need to be installed as the driver door is rusting.    I have an old “welding” alternator that was on the truck previously. It needs work but could be reinstalled.

The back of the truck was set up with cabinets by the previous owner and includes a propane heater in the rear. a built-in air compressor with air tank and a sink with approximately  5 gallons of water storage.   Linings were installed on the ceiling and walls. The original aluminum floor is still in the truck and needs some work but is not in bad shape.   The cabinets are well made and useful and don't eat up too much space as they do not extend beyond the wheel wells inside the rear of the truck.

I had the original steel rims powder coated black.

The vehicle does not have any major fluid leaks. in fact . ery little.

What does NOT work:    I would say it needs a new steering box as there is excessive play in the unit. but you can drive it fine.     If I were keeping the truck I would have power steering fabricated for it.   The speedometer does not work.  I think it only needs a new cable and gear housing.

Replace the doors which are included with the truck.   This is an easy job.    Sometimes the starter relay does not engage.   The previous owner put in a separate switch that is used to get it to engage and can be reached by the driver inside the cab.    It has never been a real issue but I would change the starter solenoid none the less.   The solenoid is inside the cab of the truck in the battery compartment so it's easy to access.  The starter motor itself is fine.   Other than this. the truck is in good condition.    Motor is original gas. aluminum block with 2 side draft carbs recently rebuilt and tuned up.

The key work performed on this truck was done by Southwest Rovers in NM at time of my purchase in 2013 and by North Texas British in Dallas.

Hi Jim,
You are selling the 101? If I had money I would buy it back in a heartbeat. I miss it.
On the steering, make sure the idler arm is tight in the output shaft from the steering box... it gets loose. Also, a reminder to check the fluid level in the transfer case. It tends to get sucked into the transmission...
