Here is an exceptional Al Leamy styled 1932 Auburn Boattail Speedster. It features the Strait-8 Lycoming engine. three speed gearbox. two speed rear end. tachometer. freewheeling capability. switchable exhaust cutout. glass swirl shift knob. antique glass flower vase. and is an excellent driving car on the highway or in town. This car was last restored in the 2000's and is very fine aesthetically and mechanically. The pictures were taken in the last week and are a proper representation of the car. You'll note the excellent finish of the paint. the condition of the chrome. as well the glass. The drive train is in very good order with no bad mechanical sounds and nor oil smoke from the exhaust. The car maintains excellent oil pressure both cold and warm and has never overheated either idling in summer traffic or cruising at 70 mph on the highway. The clutch engages well and does not chatter or slip. The mechanical brakes work well and are very strong. They are fully capable of locking up the wheels as a testament. The doors open and shut solidly with good gaps and proper working lock and latches. The golf bag door locks and opens properly and the soft top fits very well. The wood bows of the soft top are in lovely condition. There are two items of note: The monogram on the doors is merely vinyl and is easily removable. Currently the car is fitted with two late 1930's downdraft carburetors on period-correct tubular intake and exhaust manifolds that were made specifically for this car. The Auburn comes with the original intake/exhaust manifold as well the updraft carburetor in working condition. As the Boattail Speedster was the performance car of the time. this modification was done to dramatically increase performance and drive-ability while still befitting the spirit of the time period. Naturally. the original parts may be installed with ease. This Auburn has recently been fitted with all six new tires and inner tubes and drives very smoothly. This car is one of a small number of original Auburns rebodied as a Speedster in the 1960's by Glen Pray. Consequently. it is an exquisite actual pre-war Auburn for a fraction of the money. Speedsters rarely come up on the market and this is certainly one of the best. A heart-stopping color combination and a delightful driving automobile. it would be a welcome addition to the concours lawn. Please feel free to call (614) 832-8728 regarding the car. I am happy to help coordinate shipping to anywhere in the world and to of course keep the car safe until it may be picked up. I am looking for a cash deal. but may consider interesting part or full trades (classics. sports. exotic. and vintage racing cars. and motorcycles).

A few points of interest- Earlier this past year this Auburn completed a successful 1600 mile cross country journey. Since then has had all new fluids and all new tires and inner tubes which still have under 250 miles on them. Since then the car was also the featured car at the invitation only charity even put on by Rahal Letterman racing. the "Rally for the Ranch" in Columbus. The car is naturally very well looked after. detailed. and enjoyed regularly. Regarding the body work. The front half of the car is all original Auburn metal as all the Auburns shared that commonality at the time regardless of wheelbase or whether it was a sedan. cabriolet. speedster. etc. I had read that the number was 11 cars that were rebodied as Speedsters back in the 60's when Glen Pray bought what was left of Auburn and all the remaining parts from the original factory. This auburn was built using original parts such as the windshield. door hinges. latches. handles. windshield wipers. etc. etc. Keep in mind that Auburns where only about 30 years old at that time. The boattail rebody and rear fenders where done in very high quality fiberglass. Given that this rebody was done almost 50 years ago and well restored since. it is very very solid and the paint. and all fitment is exceptional. The car's finish is not easily telling that it is anything but all metal. Collectability wise. The car is indeed an actual pre-war Auburn and has been registered with the ACD club. Speedsters are the most sought after cars and naturally the price is fitting with that. As this is not an original Speedster. it is a fraction of the cost of one. but will always hold value as a collectible pre-war Auburn and an exciting one to boot. There are quite simply crappy look-a-likes of the later mid-30's Gordon Buehrig Auburn Speedsters. Those cars are built with a modern frame and drivetrain. Their chrome parts and special bits generally are of a low quality compared to actual pre-war parts and these cars have no historical presence other than their superficial look. I would never own one of those cars and while no one should confuse this car with one of them. I feel it is worth pointing out. I have only known of and or seen 3 or possibly 4 of these Glen Pray rebodied Auburn Speedsters and had missed out on buying one about 6 years ago. This one is indeed the finest and should certainly warrant your consideration.
