1982 Mercedes Benz 380 SEL. Originally supplied by Yorkstar Motors. Sydney. I have owned this car for more than 10 years and it has been a pleasure to own and drive. Now I have retired and the car is surplus to my requirements. The car drives and handles very well. For the past few years I have regularly commuted from Queensland to New South Wales along the Summerland Way. a journey of four hours. and this car has handled the curves and mountains effortlessly. The motor is strong and smooth. I have never had it up to it's highest speed but it handles steep climbs with ease and power to spare. The car steers and handles like it was designed to do. It is a long wheelbase heavy luxury car and it sits and rides well on the road. Fuel economy is good for a V8. I can do that four hour trip on less than half a tank of petrol.  
The car was converted to gas in the 1990s but all of that has been removed with the exception of the filler cap in the left hand rear quarter panel. Front tyres are okay. rear tyres are down to tread indicators. Leather interior is acceptable. The rear seat is good as are the door trims and headlining. Front seats show cracks and splits. Carpets are original and in good condition. Dash is cracked but covered with a dash protector. I have recently replaced the interior hood lock mechanism. The rear springs have been replaced. The cooling system does not leak and the automatic transmission functions well. I have the original Mercedes alloy wheels which are included in the sale if the buyer wants them. Two of the original rims have brand new tyres on them. The car is fitted with original Mercedes mud flaps. The car comes with an owners book and my paper history of service. Over the years I have spent a lot of money maintaining this car. In return it has been reliable and comfortable transport.
The sunroof functions. The front doors have power window issues. The glass will not go down. Other electrical issues are as follows- There are no dash lights. It could be a blown fuse. The horn works only sometimes which indicates a contact issue. The odometer stopped working in February. The windscreen wiper does not function and appears to have a linkage problem as I can hear the motor work. The speedometer and all dash gauges function. The steering wheel is covered in hand sewn leather. There is a weep in the right hand front brake wheel cylinder which has admitted air into the brake system. This will need to be repaired but the brakes function well by simply pumping the brake pedal. I recently drove it like that for 320km and I could stop when required. An idler pully needs to be replaced. The air conditioner needs to be re-gassed.  
This model series was prone to rust in the bottom corners of the rear windscreen. This car does not have rust there. There is rust blistering the paint behind the right hand rear wheel arch near the wheel arch moulding. There is rust along the top of the front left hand door above the glass. Likewise on the drivers door. Apart from that I cannot see more. The paintwork is clean and acceptable but would benefit from a polish. there are numerous chips and crows feet on the hood. The grill plastic is not broken.

In short. this is a presentable looking car that will look good in your driveway and not bring your property value down. I worked as a professional for 27 years and this car was a good calling card. able to hold it's head up in society. I have bought a new car and this one must go. If you want a solid and handsome looking car to easily restore than this is for you. The reserve is low as I want this car gone so it is priced for the man in the street to own. I can safely say this must be the cheapest 380 SEL on offer on ebay that you can drive away and enjoy from day one. There is years of life left in this Mercedes and for a car that is 35 years old it presents well. With little effort and expense you will have it back to top operating condition. If you are looking for a showroom condition car than look elsewhere. But really. there is no such thing as a showroom condition car that is 35 years old.  
I have described the car honestly and at length as best I can. It is a fairly original car complete down to the warning triangle in the boot. I would advise you to come and inspect the car or have someone inspect it for you to be certain that it meets your standards. Any inspection is welcome as I have nothing to hide and nothing to gain by misrepresenting the condition of the car. What you see is what you get. There is no roadworthy or inspection certificate. This car is unregistered and will be sold in as is condition with no guarantee given or implied. The number plates will be removed before it leaves my yard. You can easily drive it home on a permit or put it on a trailer or tilt tray. Interstate buyers are welcome. All freight/transportation will be at the buyers expense. I will be available to assist in loading.
As a final note to prospective buyers I must clearly state that if you bid and win this car you are required to pay for it. I have zero tolerance for deadbeat non-paying bidders. If you bid and you don't pay you will be reported to ebay and when I relist the car you will be named and shamed. My only accepted methods of payment are Bank Deposit or cash on pickup. The latter method is preferable. Payment in full is expected within TWO DAYS of the end of the auction. I am not interested in a deposit and payment on the never-never scheme. Payment is expected in full and promptly. If you do not have your finances in order before you bid then kindly do not bid at all. Please note I am not interested in swapping the car for another car. motorcycle. ocean liner. your wife. several goats or a flying carpet. This car is for sale and prompt monetary payment is required from the buyer. The car will not leave my yard until it is paid for in full.
