Triumph (Grinnal) TR8 for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 407 votes
This is a genuine Grinnal TR8 offerred for sale. I purchased the car in 2010. As you can see it is a magnificant example. It was stripped bare in the early 90's from a donor 1982 TR7 convertible at Grinnal and underwent what can only be described as a no expense spared rebuild. The whole body was stripped and found to be in very sound condition. and was acid dipped to remove any trace of rust. When rebuilt the owner had all the seams lead filled so that future rust in the dreaded seams would not be an issue. The car remains completely rust free to this day. it was repainted in metallic Mauritious blue. The interior was recovered in dove grey leather including the door panels. The interior is in excellent condition. with dove grey wilton carpets and proper rubber overmats. The roof is mohair and is excellent. the windows in the soft top are all good. and with no yellowing. Since rebuild the car has completed 18500 miles as the condition demonstrates. It is a real head turner. but I have taken the hard decision to sell as I fancy a Porsche 911!The history with the car is as extensive as any enthusiast could wish for. This includes a photographic record of the rebuild. many letters between the owner and Mark Grinnal dealing with rebuild preferences. and all Mot's and services carried out. The car was rebuilt with Rover Vitesse engine ( itself rebuild to new standard) and brakes and 14" wheels. It has a stainless exhaust and as you would expect sounds amazing. There are receipts for the rebuild in the early 90's which total more than £12. 00.  The car has power steering so unlike its TR7 little brother is not a heavyweight to drive. The car sailed through the last MOT. The only issue with the car that I am aware of having driven it all summer is that the Holly carburettor needs a tune as it doesn't perform quite as it should. It drives perfectly fine. but doesn't take kindly to too  much full throttle. If I kept the car I would probably have a modern weber alternative fitted. which apparently is the best choice for this engine. as the Holly was never great with this engine. However. having said that. when tuned the car performs very well. There are records showing that after rebuild. it was putting out around 190 bhp. Certainly it will accelerate to 60 in around 7 or less seconds. I have taken it on several longs journeys around the UK. and if driven fairly normally will return 25mpg. I could rabble on for hours about this car. it has given me immense pleasure. It has been regularly wax oiled.  This is not some home conversion. It is a proper Grinnal rebuild. which actually drive better than the original TR8 ever did (having driven one) It is up as a classified advert with a sticker price but I am open to sensible offers close to the price. It is offerred without any warranty. There are a couple of small hairline cracks in the paint as shown in the photograph. It seems these are where the natural panel joins would have been. If they bothered you ( i lived with them) they could be professionally sorted for a few hundred pounds. I have been very honest in this description. and I am sure you can tell from the time taken to list this that I deserves a caring new owner to maintain its fantastic condition. If you are looking for one of these cars. then I doubt you will find better. I am listing the car for sale elsewhere so can withdraw from sale at any time if sold elsewhere. Please get in touch if you have any questions. I would welcome and encourage any prospective purchaser to look at the car before purchase. If nothing else just to see it is as good in the flesh as in photographs. I have it insured but it is now sorned after a very enjoyable summer of use. If you wish to drive it you will need to show me evidence of valid fully comprehensive insurance. It will come with an expensive all weather outdoor cover.
