RetroMarques Ltd is pleased to offer for sale. on behalf of the Mini-enthusiast owner. this stunning:

Austin Mini Cooper Mark II (998cc) – XLP 402G

A Heritage Certificate confirmed Mini Cooper. details as follows:

          Chassis number: C-A2SB/1148222

          RHD. UK Home Market

          Tartan Red. with Black Trim

Date of build:  2 April 1968

Despatched: 2 April 1968 to LF Dove Ltd. Croydon

An opportunity to purchase a highly original Mini Cooper which has been the subject of significant recent investment. including:

Full bare-metal restoration in 2009 (Bob Jenkins. Bristol). CD of images on file

Full engine rebuild. to correct Cooper spec in August 2011 (RetroMarques Ltd)

A lovely Austin Cooper Mk. II. only recently the subject of a full professional bare shell restoration during 2008-9. with an accompanying photo record and all bills (mainly SC. Moss and Mini Specialists. Somerford) totalling over £12. 00!  The result is very eye catching. in the classic scheme of Tartan Red with Black roof. chrome over-riders and genuine twin fuel tanks. Many new panels were used. including inner and outer sills. all four floor pans. cross member and wings.   New sub-frames were fitted. the suspension was converted to 'dry' cones. also utilising the upgrade parts of adjustable Hi-Lo units and tie rod arms. etc.

Other new parts included brakes. clutch. carb kits. steering rack. Maniflow sports exhaust and a set of 6x10" Revolution Classic alloys. covered by Group 2 arches. and wrapped in superb motorsports Yokohama AdVan tyres (the best!).

The seats. trim. carpets and seals are all new and the look is further enhanced with tinted sliding glass from a Radford Coachworks Mini. an iconic ‘Cooper' Mota-Lita steering wheel and an add-on tachometer.

The very clean engine is a genuine Cooper 998 unit. rebuilt only recently by Rob. here at RetroMarques. at a further cost of £3. 00! The opportunity for an unleaded head conversion was taken at this time too.

Despite being barely run-in (just 350 miles since the engine rebuild). this is a strong-performing Cooper. as one would expect with the freshly rebuilt engine. with the “grin factor” a quick Mini can deliver. enhanced by the sound of an LCB (Long Centre Branch manifold!) on song.   It starts and runs well. reflecting the care that went into the engine build. and accelerates strongly for a 998. performance which is enhanced with the low ratio gear installation.

With genuine early Mini Cooper prices rising all the time. a car of this quality must surely represent a sound investment.   XLP402G  is very much a Cooper that could be driven and enjoyed. yet we believe is also good enough to be ‘showed' or perhaps might be purchased to represent an  iconic piece of British motoring heritage in a collection.

MoT Test and tax (historic) to August 2013. ready for the coming season.
