This is an extremely rare. beautifully restored 1948 Divco Helms Bakery truck which would make an amazing center piece for a car collection. an eye-catching promotional sign vehicle. gourmet food truck. cafe wagon. gelato. hot dog cart. taco stand. beverage. farmers market. surf / camping vehicle. or rent it out as a motion pictures / commercials background vehicle. Helms Bakery was an iconic Southern California Bakery which operated from 1931 to 1969 and their trucks can be seen in the background of many movies during the golden age of cinema. They were chosen as the official supplier for the 1932 Olympics. and they also have the distinction of being the "First Bread on the Moon" because they were chosen to be on board the Apollo 11 Space Mission. They never sold their products in stores or supermarkets. thus their eye catching and unique delivery trucks. Unfortunately. when supermarkets became common. Helms closed their doors in 1969.
This amazingly original Divco was designed in 1931. but has the modern touches of a 1948 vehicle. due to Helms placing an order for several trucks after the war. The 1948 model is the most desirable and rare. due to the unique "Clam Shell" rear doors. Here is a true blast from the past from back in the day in Southern California culture. a 1948 Helm's Bakery Truck in fully operational condition. These trucks were famous for delivering fresh baked goods from as far North as Fresno California all the way South to San Diego. They'd pull up in your neighborhood. blow their horn twice. and house wives and families would flock to the trucks for fresh loaves of bread. pastries. cream puffs. and other incredible delicacies. These days they are very rare with between 50 and 150 examples believed to be still in existence. Hemming's Motor News recently wrote an article on them and cited recent auction sales at $74. 00 and $63. 00 proving a healthy demand for these cool pieces of vintage Southern California Americana. Here is the link to that article.

The 1948 Helm's is considered to be the rarest model due to the fact that all of the 1948's were made specifically for the Helm's Bakery fleet after the war. This Truck was just fully serviced including a new radiator. tune up. a new generator. coil. battery. spark plugs. wires. etc. and starts. runs. drives. shifts and brakes beautifully.
The body is very solid. clean. and is painted in the exact original Helms Bakery factory colors. Creamy yellow body. navy blue stripe and trim. metallic silver top and metallic vintage green interior. It also has a brand new solid oak wood plank floor.
Mechanically this Truck is bone stock with the original factory Divco Continental four cylinder flat head engine and is in great running and driving condition. The odometer says 28068. but because it's a 1948. I don't know the actual miles. As previously mentioned it was recently thoroughly serviced as necessary and is ready to be enjoyed.
This Truck comes with a clear California title and is located in Laguna Beach. CA. This is a great opportunity to land an incredibly rare piece of American and Southern California history. This truck turns heads and brings smiles invoking memories of a much simpler time.
It comes with a clear California title.
Because it's pre 1975. it is smog exempt.
