This 1971 Karmann Ghia was beautifully restored by a well known shop in Roanoke. VA that has been in business for over 30 years. Not an inch of this car has been overlooked and it definitely shows.
Suspension/Chassis- narrowed and dropped adjustable front axle(dropped 5in in the front). dropped spring plates(dropped 4in in the rear). all new ball joints. torsion bars. tierod ends. brakes(wheel cylinders. shoes. pads. etc. ). and brand new tires all the way around with 145/65r15 on the front and 165/80r15 on the rear. The bottom of the car has been completely undercoated with a quality rubberized coating.
Engine/Transmisson- The original 1600cc Dual Port motor was professionally rebuilt to stock specifications locally in Moneta. VA by a well known Volkswagen mechanic that has been in business for more than 25 years. Brand new carburetor. electronic ignition with flamethrower coil. rebuilt generator. new starter. new stock cylinder heads. new clutch and flywheel. new oil cooler. and a two tip header exhaust system. The engine bay was completed with bed liner then paint gloss black for a nice finish. The car was converted over from Autostick to a 4 speed manual. New pedals were installed along with a new clutch cable. The Autostick can go with the car upon request.
Interior- The interior was put back to factory specifications with some of the original pieces. Under the dash was painted turquoise to match the exterior of the car. The interior was installed by M&S Upholstery of Roanoke. VA. Brand new headliner. carpet. door panels. and correct wood grain dash face. Along with all the new. there are some interior pieces that are original to the car. The seats are uncovered and original and the dash pad was dyed back to its original glory. All the gauges are VDO and original to the car. The clock is the only thing that could not be brought back to working order. but all the lenses and chrome on the gauges are in excellent condition.
Body/Paint- The body work on this car is second to none. All of the rust was cut out and properly replaced with patch panels or hand made patches. The floor pans are in perfect condition and are ORIGINAL. There is not a spec of rust in the floor pans of this car. The panels replaced include both lower fenders. rocker panels(inner and outer). the bottom of the front and rear quarter panels. and at the nose of the car underneath the bumpers. Every patch was fully welded solid. After all the rust was fixed the car was stripped down to bare metal and sprayed with a rust prevented primer. The car was completely straightened out so there are no lumps or bumps anywhere. The car was then painted with the beautiful Harley Davidson Deep Turquoise and Birch White color combination using only PPG products. The car does have a flattening agent in the paint that gives the color a nice sheen. but still shines enough to give it the perfect appearance. Along with all that. every piece of rubber on the car is brand new. The bumpers are new. not re-chromed. along with all painted bumper components.
