1954 Triumph TR 2

1954 TR 2 Triumph  Early Long Door. Factory Wire Wheels. Complete. for restoration.

The original (I believe) owner. in Upstate New York. had an engine issue circa 1962. and pulled the engine for repairs. He then decided to do rust repair. and pulled a lot more of the car apart. He lost enthusiasm. and eventually sold the car to his neighbor. who happened to be my father's best friend. This friend never got around to the project. and he sold the car to me in 1968. We towed home the chassis with the major body section. the rest came in boxes. I finished the assembly/ rebuild in 1971. and drove the car for several summers. Starting out after college. I had to leave the car in storage. but eventually towed it to Massachusetts. where I titled. registered and drove it for several summers in the late 80's. The electrical systems had a lot of issues. and I finally towed the car back to my parents place near Ithaca. NY. and put it up in one of the barns. where it still is located. Since the rebuild. it has never been driven in winter. and always garaged or stored indoors. I believe that the odometer reading is true. although I have no way to verify. The car has been driven about 8000 miles since I rebuilt it.

The car had no evidence of any accident damage. but the floor pans were badly rusted. I cut them out and replaced them. The rest of the main body was in decent shape. including the trunk and spare tire compartment. The frame was solid. The doors had been partly re-skinned by the first owner. and I went with that.   Both front fenders had rust perforation. and they were repaired with plastic. There was rust perforation near the right rear taillight. also repaired with plastic. The battery well has since rusted through. I helped my mom sew up new upholstery in white Naughahyde (could not afford leather). The acrylic lacquer paint job is now starting to rust through from underneath.

Engine Serial TS 4063 E. Engine was completely rebuilt. with a new liner/ piston kit. Crank was ground and polished. new valves and professional install. Transmission went back as-is. and did fine except for a weak 4th gear synchronizer. Differential was not touched. Brakes were completely rebuilt. new clutch. rebuild on most accessories. The Semperit radials I bought in 1971 are still on. and look in pretty good condition. When last I visited in October 2015. car was dirty but still basically sound. The photos are from that date. I turned the motor over with the hand crank. The clutch worked. and transmission shifted easily. One rear wheel was seized up. as was one front. probably due to rust in the brake drums.

In the late 70's. a friend who had had numerous TR 3's bequeathed me a large stockpile of parts. I have the front nose. ood and boot lid from a TR 3. a short block with crank and pan. and all kinds of engine and electrical parts. I also saved almost all the parts that I replaced. for what it's worth. I have the copper-headed knock-off hammer and engine hand crank. but the original jack was missing. I have the original factory service manual. which is extremely valuable and quite readable. despite water damage to the cover by the first owner. I used. and still have. the original top. tonneau cover. and side curtains. They are in very tough shape. but very usable as patterns for replacements. There is a spare wire wheel.

This is a complete TR. even if not currently running. It does have a heater and defroster. It was a blast to drive. even with all the electrical issues. It will be a real solid basis for a full restoration. TR 2's had only a single orange center brake light. over the license plate. Shortly after I got the car on the road this nearly got me rear-ended. I mounted a pair of beehive red brake lights on the bumper support brackets: problem solved. no cuts in the bodywork.

The car is near Ithaca NY. and I currently live in Colorado. A long-time friend of mine is able to show the car. and assist in getting it loaded for transport. The situation requires some patience. in order to coordinate all parties. Because of this. I require that any prospective buyer contact me prior to purchase. in order to make clear the conditions for completing the sale and removing the car. I require a deposit of $500. within 24 hours. by PayPal only. I request that the balance be cash at the time of pick-up. to be completed within 10 days of the purchase. I will accept PayPal or a wire transfer for the balance. if a third-party shipper is to remove the car. I have a clear title. which will be assigned when the car is paid for in full.
