I have decided to sell my one of a kind 1979 Jeep CJ7. This has been a great project but we recently moved to a new home without a garage and I am tired of taking the cover off and putting it back on every time I want to drive it. In my opinion it is too nice to keep outside. it should be garage kept.
This is a great jeep! It is 38 years old but drives like a newer wrangler because of the upgrades that have been done. listed below. This is not a jeep you should be scared to drive. you do not need to wrestle it down the road. With that said it is 38 years old and it is not perfect so also with the interest of full disclosure I will list the imperfections below.
Like I said it is a 79 but has been almost completely been redone.
-The body was a donor and is rust free. It has been modified to look like a newer wrangler with the family style role cage. steel flat front fenders. and steel fender flares. The custom bumpers are also a great addition. The front has a winch mount and the rear has a swinging tire mount and a receiver for a hitch. The paint is a metallic silver that looks great in the sunlight. It is a pretty good paint job. But it is not perfect. I have include photos of a few scratches. It also has a bikini top so you are out of the sun on hot days.
-The engine is the original 258 cubic inch 6 cylinder. I has been rebuilt. it starts every time and runs strong. It has the original 3 speed transmission and dana 20 transfer case. It has dana 20 rear and dana 30 front axles. It has Power steer and aftermarket power brakes. new disc brakes up front. These are two of the things that make is so easy to drive. I recently replaced the water pump. all belts and hoses. the electronic ignition module. steering shaft with a heavy-duty aftermarket shaft for a lift. and added an electronic fuel pump. It also has a new exhaust through out and sounds great!
-The interior is minimalist but in great shape. It has been bed lined though out the entire interior so it is very easy to clean. It has very expensive Corbeau seats as well as 4 point harnesses for all passengers. All of the original controls work and the gages are original and most. see below. work great. It has a marine (water proof) stereo but I never installed speakers. see photo with wires below dash.
-Suspension. wheels and tires- it has  2 1/2 suspension lift with pro comp shocks all around. The tires are 285/75R17 (34 inch) BFG KM2 mud terrains and they all have plenty of life left in them. they have maybe 2. 00 miles on them and the spare has never been used. The wheels are 17 inch Dick Cepek and look great.
-Like I said this is 38 years old and it is not perfect. So here is the stuff that could still be done but none of this is a must:
Transmission- The synchronizer is out in 2nd gear so it will pop out of gear under certain circumstances. It really only happens when you are going down hill in second gear without your foot on the gas. This does not effect the drivability or reliability at all. I would have replaced or rebuilt it if it bothered me or If i had found another one laying around.
Stereo- Like i said it has a stereo but does not have speakers. I always used my bluetooth speaker.
Gages- the fuel and oil pressure gages do not work. The oil pressure gage doesn't have a needle on it for some reason. it hasn't since I have owned it. The fuel gage just doesn't work. This is pretty common and an easy fix.
Windshield- it needs a new windshield and rear view mirror They are the original and show discoloration. If that holds you back from buying it let me know and I'll replace them!
The only other thing that I would do if I were going to keep it is replace the body mounts. The only reason why I say that is because that is really the only thing I haven't replaced. I bought a set but never got around to replacing them. I will include them with the purchase.
I think I have covered everything. maybe too much. The bottom line is this is a great jeep to drive. everywhere I go people ask about it. wave. and give compliments about it.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need any additional photos. Also please come look at it!  Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. I have the jeep for sale locally so I reserve the option to end the sale early.
