1973 Volkswagen Camper T2 Bus

Hi here is our 1973 VW Campervan

We bought our camper in the middle of last year with the plan of a road trip around Europe.  it was a non runner that had sat for a while as an unfinished project. nbsp;it was all we could afford so took the plunge.    

It had its welding done by the previous owner and had a quick respray before we bought it. he had other projects he wanted to finish so decided to sell this camper.

 

We've had a local vw mechanic do the work and its now running nicely and everything works. the brakes were seized but have been fixed up and are working just fine. we also had some rewiring taken care of as lots of things didn't work including the fuel gauge/speedo. lights all rewired. new washers etc.  The engine has had a service and been tuned up & checked over so its runs nicely. He did say the clutch was fine but the bearing is noisy but Its all fine and has 12 months mot.  

Currently it has no road tax but will be tax exempt from 2014 !

Its not perfect although the pics make it look really nice. there are a few rust bubbles coming thru here n there and the paintwork isn't as good as the pics make it seem but in general it looks pretty smart. its 40 years old so has had some repairs done. its had welding done in the past as most of them have.  

The popup roof works fine but it does have a couple of splits in the plastic windows. nothing too major and probably can be repaired without too much fuss. needs a few other bits to finish here n there. it needs door rubbers as a couple are missing.  

An interior was made earlier in the year. its got a R&R 3/4 width bed. new wood cabinets. new lino flooring and all the inside has been covered in flexible thin carpet that they have in modern campervans. the old white paint inside was grotty so rather than painting we decided to cover it over and make it feels a little warmer at the same time. also has a small sink and cold running water. 240v mains electric was fitted and a couple of new 12v lights.

It still needs a few small things doing but its on the road now so I guess the new owner can deal with the smaller things over time. our road trip plans have been put on hold for a while as we are moving house very soon. maybe in a couple of years we'll get back on track.
