1965 split screen camper, twin sliding door, super rare

 Aircooled Technic is an independent Aircooled Volkswagen specialist based in Surrey.
All I do is fix air cooled VW's & nothing else. I bought my first Beetle in 1994 & have been trading since 2005.

This is my own van which is for my family to use.

I have had it for 4 years & has served me well.
I have done plenty of shows in it & plenty of work to it in between. It makes regular visits to my workshop & is very well maintained.
We took it to Le Mans this year. Spa last year & god knows where else. It's just a bit small for my family. so have bought something bigger.

There might be too much to list here & stuff I have bound to forgotten. I am still writing the full spec as a word. doc.

It's a 1965 registered German kombi & was a special order from the factory for the German water board with twin sliding doors. It is one of only a handful I know of. There are a few knocking about in Europe. & a Samba in the USA. but I know of 2 others in the UK. Alan Schofield has a twin sliding door panel van as.

The guts of the van are all good. I have done some welding which can all be seen & hasn't been filled over. I was always intending to paint the van. but family has delayed it. There isn't any welding needed now. It was MOT'd fairly recently.

Mechanics are very good with thousands of pounds worth of parts.
1776cc motor recently fitted. with Scat 8 dowel counter weight crank & rods has only done 500 miles. I have just done a top end rebuild on that to check it over too.
Engle 110 cam. light flywheel. Kennedy clutch & Italian twin IDF's.
New 75 amp alternator & split charge system. 009 dizzy with petronix electronic ignition & coil.
Exhaust is a 4-1 with heat exchangers. I fitted new heater cables. so the heating works too.
There is a remote filter & 72 row oil cooler & fan on a thermo switch.
There is a thermostat in the oil line too.
Exhaust is a custom made turbo mufler & isn't too loud or too low.
I have just bought & had painted a brand new Autocraft rear valance. You can see it in the engine photo.
Gearbox is a cogbox freeway flyer with high 4th gear. That was rebuilt by him a few thousand miles ago. It has a Bus Boys straight axle kit & Rhino mounts.
Front beam is a 4" narrow creative. with adjusters. dropped spindles & 944 discs & rebuilt callipers.
Rear has Sway-a-Way race axles & Kerscher rear disc kit.
Nice soft oil shocks are fitted all round.

It goes & stops pretty well.

Inside. I have just had re-trimmed. It's had all new 4" blue foam & grey vinyl to match the leather in the front. Fronts were trimmed a year or so ago. and are still perfect. There are decent 3 point seat belts in the front.
The bus hasn't been slept in since the rear was re-trimmed a few weeks ago. There is a fairly new metal rock n roll bed.
There is a new kiddies hammock in the front which is great for extra storage when camped.

There is a Autometer monster tach with shift & oil light. plus both oil pressure & temp gauges to match.

There is a custom cabinet against the bulkhead. cleverly fitted to keep the spare wheel tray.
It houses the JL Audio 6" & 12" polk Audio sub. It sounds pretty good. The Panasonic remote control head unit has usb & iPod leads with it.
There are 2 bright lights to see what you are doing & some cool colour changing LED's when you are in party mode.

Wheels are MWS gas burners in Porsche patern. (rear discs are 5x130 too).
The rear wheels can be removed just by jacking with no extra fuss.
Tyres are 175/55 & 175/70 x 15's.
I have the ride height fairly high at the mo. but could be slammed easily if that's your thing.

It is 12v electrics with decent H4 Halogen US spec headlights with angel eye side lights. They look great cruzing round a show at night.

The bodywork is no way near mint as you can see. It was used by the Germans. but hasn't done many miles. maybe less than 60. 00 from new. Both doors operate as they should & 1 key does all the locks. I have painted a few patches which you can see as darker green. This is the correct paint code which matches the dash. RAL7008. I completely stripped the engine bay & painted that. so it looks nice.
All the paint inside is original as is some of the roof on the outside.

I am going to be sad to see the bus go. & if nobody wants to buy it. I will just leave it in the cosy garage where it spends most of it's time in anyway.

Forget your common Samba or Barn door. This is super rare. Be different!
