Mini Marcos MK1V

Mini Marcos MK1V 1972 classic mini kit car.   Car is a 1972 MK1V and therefore tax exempt. currently mot. and taxed(free!) .

A great little car with huge potential. I bough this car earlier this year with a view to using it as a rolling restoration project- as it is road legal. nbsp; It made an appearance at the Enfield Motoring Pageant back in May (see Facebook Mini Cooper Register Herts &North London). it had some initial probs with  poor front braking and overheating. one of which was cured at the show- an electric fan switch which was unknown to me!!. the other was poor brakes on the front. I then bought all the parts to fix . but free time over summer . ue to work and volunteering commitments . as been against me. so I have only just been able to get started with the fettling process!

I have now replaced completely all the  front brakes components with 4 pot Callipers. vented discs. pads . nd goodrich braided hoses and so now the car actually stops properly ! The car is fitted with 13 " Ultralite alloy wheels and I have a complete set of Pirelli Drago 175/50/13 tyres to fit. including a spare.   I have been acquiring spares for the car - shocks. genuine MK1V door cards etc etc at all the mini shows this year and these will be included.   

I have very little history with the car. I know  it was last seen at Newark kit car show in 1998 and has been off road  possibly until last year. Iwas advised that was being worked on as part of a "college " restoration project by the last but one owners who had  it for some years . It is a genuine MK1V . with original Marcos chassis plate and serial  number of 8010. It has been in the past modified with a view to racing?

The engine is a metro unit of at least 1275cc. I was told that it was a 1380 but I cannot verify this without taking head off and measuring . It is fitted with  a webber Dcoe 40 . new Distributor. cap . leads etc and LCB and single back box . It runs nicely and starts ok. Clutch seems fine and remote gear change is fine. The interior has Cobra  seats and harnesses. and it has been partially re- carpeted. Front suspension has new hi- los fitted and adjustable shocks.

I had the car out for a drive this last weekend to test the newly fitted  brakes. and they were working fine.

Items to finish  include a roof lining and some interior trimming including door cards(included). I was intending to replace the dash entirely with a more period bespoke one which is not too difficult a diy task. Mechanically  the tracking still needs to be adjusted . but I will get this done when I get the  new tyres fitted.   The engine/car would. I think . enefit from a rolling road set up. nbsp;there is an oil leak on RHS but I cannot find from where as yet but will keep trying!

The front of the car has a detachable nose cone which is fantastic for maintainance access to the engine and running gear. When remove everything is easily accessible.  

I am really in two minds about letting it go as I love it to bits. but restoration time for me is now limited. and It needs to be out on the road whee it belongs!.   The ideal thing for me now would be a restored/working Marcos and that is what I may end up buying to replace this lovely one. so P/Ex may be possible!!
