1957 Seagrave V-12 Aerial Ladder Fire Truck Dillsburg, PA for sale

This truck is an unmolested survivor that I rescued from a warehouse here in Michigan. It was trucked here from New Jersey over 10 years ago and had been sitting ever since. She served for the Citizens Hose Company in Dillsburg. PA  It has a 1988 PA DOT inspection sticker on the window. I cleaned about an inch of dust off of it. got her running. got the lights & siren working and I've been driving it all around town. She runs flawlessly and is an absolute head turner! I've taken it twice to a large local cruise-in and she stole the show both times. people were walking right past the hot rods to check out the Seagrave! This thing is about the coolest piece of machinery I have ever seen. The classic Seagrave styling is timeless & amazing.
Its distinctive 70th anniversary grille is a high mark in the 20th Century American fire engine builder's unique art.
It has the huge 900 cubic inch Seagrave V-12 that starts & runs like a dream. It has two 12 cyl. distributors (currently only 1 is working) and 24 spark plugs! 2 huge cast iron Zenith carbs. The brass radiator is perfect and it runs at 180 degrees. nbsp;it does not get any hotter or over heat. It has the expected oil seepage from a 56 year old engine & trans and she does drip a little bit.
The hyd pump & pto work great and the 85' aerial ladder is fully operational. Goes up & down. extends & retracts and rotates very smoothly. The LH hyd cylinder leaks at the top seal. The ladder stays up with the engine off and doesn't creep down.
All the booster pump pto parts & plumbing appear to be ok with no cracks or damage.  The water tank has some rust in it & I can't hook up to a hydrant so I have not tried to operate it The tach speedo & odometer do not work but the oil pressure & temp gauge do work. I think the odeometer shows 55k but the numbers are faded and hard to read. Several of the guages outside of the cab are broken and/or not functioning. The original gas tank was full of rust so she has a new 32 gal fuel cell. fuel pump & filters.
The tires are good and the vacuum assist brakes were rebuilt and work great. It has the 5 speed Fuller trans (better practice your double clutching) with 2 pto's. Some re-wiring was done at some point due to the old cotton insulated wires. I repaired a few myself as well.
This truck has great 56 year old patina with plenty of scratches & minor surface rust. It has no major rust what so ever and no major dents. It is a very solid complete truck with very few missing parts. Comes with 2 Alco-Lite aluminum ladders ( 40' & 50' ) and a LONG 3 section wooden ladder thats got to be at least 50' as well. There is 1 old hose and a box of spare distributor parts. All the wood flooring in the rear bed is bad.  I've picked up and installed a horn from a '56 but the bell is missing ( I do have contact info for a guy in PA who has the original bell). The front bumpers were re-chromed at some point. Siren works and is LOUD ! It weights 23. 00 lbs. the wheelbase is 21'6" and its about 40' long overall. This truck is a great canidate for full restoration or just keep it classic original as it is. I really hate to part with this truck but winter is coming and I've been unable to find suitable indoor storage for her. She deserves better that sitting outside in the snow all winter. I've lowered the buy it now to $6500. Clear title. I'm also open to offers or a trade for a smaller motor vehicle.

I've tried to describe this truck best I can but this is in no way a complete list of what is right or wrong with this truck. You are buying this 56 year old vehicle "as-is" with no warranty expressed or implied. It is available for inspection here in Livonia. MI 48154. You can call me to make an appointment to see it. Questions and/or offers are welcome as well. 734-634-5901 Kerry. Pick up or shipping arraingments are fully the buyers responsibility. I will help facilitate as much as possible. This truck is fully roadworthy but she doesn't go very fast and only gets a couple mpg so how far you choose to drive it is up to you. I expect a $500 non-refundable pay-pal deposit within 24 hours of sale or auction end. The truck must be picked up and paid for with cash or certified funds within 10 days unless other arraingements are made prior to bidding or sale. The truck nor title will be released until funds have cleared. This truck is for sale locally as well so I reserve the right to end auction early if reserve price is not yet met.

Was the truck sold? The truck came from Darby Fire Patrol #2 in Darby Borough (Delaware County Pa). I spent a lot of time responding on this piece

Is the ladder still available?

Just found your for sale ad and wanted to say "Wow"!

I was a volunteer with Dillsburg in the 1980's when we were a rural York County department and we acquired Ladder 64 from the Upper Darby FD in 1983. Upper Darby is suburban Philadelphia so we in the small borough we're excited about getting a "big city"'piece of equipment. First time we had it out in those colors was to the state fire convention in 1983 in Hershey. I responded to a few calls in the right seat of that truck.

Hope you found a good home for it!
