1952 MGYB

Currently. there are only 19 MGYB cars registered in the United States. This vehicle is in superb condition: smooth road performance with a mere 2. 65 miles on the reworked engine. gleaming two-tone maroon paint. polished chrome headlamps/grill. leather seats and door pockets. handsome burl walnut interior framing and instrument panel with chrome-edged instruments. built-in hydraulic four-jack system. Unique features are a moon roof. a rear window roller blind. an ammeter gauge showing the rate at which the battery is being charged or discharged. dual windshield wipers hand-operated by turning a knob. electrically-controlled turn signals that swing up/down from the side of the car. front windshield can be cranked open open to allow for ventilation. trunk (boot) opens down to provide a table-top area. comfortable passenger back seat. All of these characteristics of the MGYB contribute to both its impressive functionality and charming personality.

This car was registered with the international "MG Car Club" by a previous owner in the UK. . Mr. R. Day who lived in Eastbourne. Sussex. At that time it was allocated the Y register number 4405. The MGYB featured an improved “Y” Type with a new Lockheed braking system and a modem hypoid type of back axle. Road holding was also improved by the introduction of smaller 15-inch (380 mm) wheels.

The MGYB was a small saloon car built between 1951-1953. an improved “Y” Type with a new Lockheed braking system and a modem hypoid type of back axle. Road holding was also improved by the introduction of smaller 15-inch (380 mm) wheels (the“Y” and the “Y/T” both had 16-inch (410 mm) wheels). The “YB” also had an anti-roll bar fitted to the front of the car and stronger shock absorbers. or dampers. were fitted.

The facing surfaces of all seats were leather. as were the door pockets. The rear of the front seats were made from Rexine. a form of leathercloth. which matched the leather fronts. as were the door panels themselves. A roller blind was fitted to the rear window as an anti-dazzle mechanism (not a privacy screen as many think). The instruments themselves. a speedometer (and clock) and a three-gauge cluster of oil pressure. fuel and charging (amps). were cleverly placed behind octagonal chrome frames.

In 1952 MG Car Company updated the “Y” Type and an improved model was launched. known as the“YB”. The “YB” had a completely new Lockheed braking system and a much more modern hypoid type of back axle. Road holding was also improved by the introduction of smaller 15-inch (380 mm) wheels (the “Y” and the “Y/T” both had 16-inch (410 mm) wheels). The “YB”also had an anti-roll bar fitted to the front of the car and stronger shock absorbers. or dampers. were fitted.

Little else was changed about the car. which was by now looking extremely dated as single unitary body (or monocoque construction) was becoming common place. The YB soldiered on until the end of 1953 and the MG ZA Magnette was introduced in 1954.

This car was registered with the international "MG Car Club" by a previous owner in the UK. . Mr. R. Day who lived in Eastbourne. Sussex. At that time it was allocated the Y register number 4405.
