1953 MG TD For Sale. Restoration completed in January 2013.

I purchased this car from the nephew of the original purchaser in November 2011. It had been given to his father by his uncle. the original owner. who then gave it to his son. At this point there have been two registered owners. both in the Berkeley/Oakland area of Northern California.

He had started the restoration a few years earlier having the frame and wheels powder coated. He also assembled the new suspension and brake components.

I completely disassembled the car. had the sheet metal acid stripped and rewashed and neutralized the residual acids before epoxy priming. There was only surface rust. mostly where the wood contact the tub sheet metal and NO rust through or severely pitted areas on any of the sheet metal. I then rebuilt the tub with new timbers from Moss. It is the second T-series tub I have rebuilt with Moss timbers. which require very little to no reshaping. cutting or deforming for proper fit. It was carefully and painstakingly fitted to the frame during the process to insure correct re-assembly. The sheet metal parts and tub were sent to the bodyman/prepshop/painter who worked on the individual units personally to insure proper and full coverage with the epoxy primers and two part acrylic enamel BROOKLANDS GREEN finish color.

The FUEL TANK was cleaned with water based solvents. boiled out and tumbled with coarse abrasives and then boiled out with phosphoric acid. neutralized and coated with thixotropic epoxy. which is impervious to gasoline and ethanol.

The ENGINE BLOCK was double dipped and pressure blasted to remove cooling jacket corrosion buildup. bored . 020 over. The CYLINDER HEAD received the same cleaning treatment. has new un-leaded fuel friendly hardened valve seats. new SS valves. new silicone bronze valve guides. new valve springs. new umbrella style seals.

The CRANKSHAFT was magna-fluxed. then X-Rayed. turned . 020 under and double nitrided for hardness. The PISTON RODS were shot peened and heat treated and balanced. The FLYWHEEL was resurfaced. had a new ring gear fitted. The entire rotating assembly was balanced. including the clutch assembly. Moss Motors supplied the crank and rod bearings as well as the cam bearings.

ARP studs and nylock nuts were used on the crankshaft bearing caps. ARP hex cap screws for the gudgeon pin pinch bolts. ARP cylinder head studs and nuts on the head.

The CAMSHAFT was profiled. reground and "parkerized" hardened by Demetri Elgin of Elgin Cams. He also weighed. balanced. surfaced and hardened the cam followers.

New tubular PUSH RODS from Moss Motors were installed. The timing cover was fitted with a modern viton rubber type seal.

The TRANSMISSION was opened visually inspected and spec measurements were within wear limits. so it was re-gasketed and re-sealed. cleaned and painted. First gear is a bit noisy. as many are. but all gears work as designed. The rest of the gears and drive train are solid. relatively quiet and operate as designed.

The DIFFERENTIAL was opened. cleaned. inspected. found to be within tolerance. re-gasketed and re-sealed. It is the stock ratio of 4. 875:1

The RADIATOR was cleaned. dipped. pressure tested to 30lbs and re-soldered by Mill Valley Radiator. It was deemed "very clean with no signs of corrosion" .

A new SU FUEL PUMP was installed. new fuel lines and the SU CARBS were rebuilt by Doug Jackson of British Automotive. who also performed all the engine
dis-assembly. specifications and reassembly.

New Stainless steel EXHAUST system.

All the rubber components are new.

The TIRES are Nexen Classics 165SR15.

The INTERIOR is MOSS Motors supplied leather Almond Green interior. the Stayfast Tan top. the Stayfast Tan side curtains. Stayfast Tan tonneau cover and the Tan pile carpeting.

The BRIGHT WORK is mostly original and cleaned up very nicely with chrome polish. The windshield cowl brackets were re-chromed.

The entire ELECTRICAL system is new. including the wiring. which was modified to include modern relays for the horns. lighting. and start circuit as well as all new light units and switches.

Speedometer. Tachometer and GAUGES were sent to APT in Minneapolis for cleaning. assessment and mechanical refurbishment. They are in excellent working condition.

SUMMARY: This car is as close to factory correct as possible. but not 90+ concourse as it has been somewhat modernized in the electrical and engine performance areas. It was re-done to accommodate a new owner wishing to feel confident that it would perform better than new. with a higher level of reliability than new and be proud to drive and show anywhere.

The selling price reflects the dollar amount spent on parts and outside services to bring this beautiful automobile back to life.
An accurate accounting including shop labor for paint finishing and reassembly would add 10. 00. 00.

Please call for an appointment to see and test drive the car in San Rafael. CA. If you can't see the car in person. please have your agent contact me for an inspection. Ken @ 415-699-354nine.

I will warranty any validated claims of mechanical or electrical parts failure for 120 days after purchase. Evidence of improper use or abuse of the mechanical function invalidates all claims. Warranty extends to replacement or refurbishment of parts only.

I AM CONFIDENT THAT THE NEW OWNER WILL BE HAPPILY SATISFIED WITH THE PURCHASE OF THIS FINE AUTOMOBILE!

I am happy to assist International Buyers with transport to Oakland Shipping Terminal.
