1976 MGB Roadster

Listed for sale by Coventry Garage LLC is a 1976 MGB Convertible with its original 4 cylinder engine and non original 4 speed manual transmission THAT IS IN WONDERFUL CONDITION. This car has only 88. 00 actual miles on it from new although it is titled as “exempt”.   This car has newer paint. newer convertible top. rebuilt engine. clutch and most suspension. We are asking only $5700. 00 for this sports car. This car is ready to be driven- it needs nothing! The car is a nice. reliable. turnkey sports car with a very solid body. floors. trunk and fenders. Copper colored paint with an Ivory/cream colored convertible top. Very nice looking car!  VIN# GHN5UG399776 G

The underside of this car is VERY solid! One of the previous owners had new floors welded into the driver's side and partial floors welded into the passenger side of the car where needed; installed the 4 Minator wheels and Michelin tires in 2006; installed the new ivory/white colored vinyl convertible top and had the car painted in 2006; had the engine rebuilt in 2007 and changed the single Zenith carb to the two SU carb setup.

In January 2008 Jim S. (of Altoona Pa. ) bought this car with about 80. 00 miles on it and proceeded to perform the following work on the car:

In 2008: Replaced all differential gears. bushes. bearings; re-wired turn signals; replaced turn signal switch; replaced heater core; replaced 4 way flasher; re-wired horn. replaced horn and horn button; installed foil insulation on floors and trunk; purchased used wheel and tire for spare; purchased used transmission and had it re-built; replaced heater control valve; replaced shifter cover with new leather and 4 stainless steel screws.

In 2009: Adjust hand brake; replace front brake pads and rotors; replace lower control arm bushings; replace back up switch; change oil and filter; top off front shocks; replace gas fill hose; replace starter relay; greased front end; rewired back up lights; bought walnut shift knob; rebuilt clutch master and slave cylinders; replaced alternator; installed foil under hood and on firewall; pulled engine and transmission- installed  rebuilt transmission. installed new 3 piece clutch set. replaced clutch master cylinder; changed antifreeze; replaced tie rod ends; replaced steering rack boot kit; replaced pinion bearings; had front end aligned; replaced spark plugs. coil and spark plug wires; changed vacuum lines on two SU carbs as per John Twist; changed fan belt and aligned alternator pulley.

In 2010: replaced tie rod end boots; replaced battery and installed battery “quick disconnect”; replaced head light gaskets; replaced clutch and brake pedal pads; replaced sun visors and pivot brackets;

In 2011: installed new vented gas tank; replaced valve cover gasket. oil pressure hose. two carburetor gaskets. more vacuum hoses. antifreeze. oil change; replaced motor and transmission mounts; replaced air filters; replaced throttle cable; installed new stainless steel exhaust.

Jim S. sold the car in January 2012 to Scott B. who owned it for 14 months and recently sold it to Coventry Garage LLC. Jim S. who performed much of the above work on the car will be glad to talk to any new owner about this car and we have Jim's handwritten notes of all work he performed.

We just installed a new clutch slave cylinder because it was leaking at the clutch rod. The car is not perfect- it has a few minor cracks/scratches in the paint on the front of the hood and a few on the trunk lid which are very hard to see. The driver's door needs an adjustment as it sags a bit at the hinge when you open it- not really that bad though. There is very little rust anywhere on this car. There are a few- smaller than a dime- sized bubbles under the paint on the driver's door bottom.

The car rides really nicely; the brakes work great and the transmission shifts very smoothly. The color combination is. I think. stunning. especially with the Minilite style wheels made by Minator in the UK. The Michelin tires. replaced in 2005/2006. have about 80% tread left.

Original door panels. seats recovered in black vinyl. nice black carpets with sound deadener/heat shielding underneath. very clear rear Plexiglas windows in the top. all glass in nice condition. NO RADIO INSTALLED but 4 speakers are in place. The whole interior is very presentable. All lights. horns. switches and gauges work. The car also comes with a full length tonneau cover- but no boot cover.

I have taken a lot of pictures and include the 24 that best show this car and the great condition it is in. It runs very nicely and is a pleasure to drive. I have personally driven the car about 75 miles at up to 65 MPH with no shimmy or steering wheel shake and no brake vibrations at all. This car has the best brakes of any MG or Triumph that I have ever driven. This MGB will make an inexpensive fun summer car for the lucky buyer.

This car is VERY CLEAN UNDERNEATH. You will not find a better MGB anywhere. This car was registered in Pennsylvania as an ANTIQUE VEHICLE which does NOT require emissions or safety testing EVER! If I were keeping this car. I would apply for the Antique license plates- no inspections and no yearly registrations EVER! These cars are getting hard to find especially in this condition!

If you like. we can give you names of local British restorers/mechanics that you can contract with to assess this MGB for you (at your expense). If you fly into Pittsburgh. we can pick you up at the Pittsburgh International Airport. All shipping arrangements and expenses will be paid by the buyer. The car will not be shipped until all funds clear our bank. This car is for sale locally so we reserve the right to end auction at any time. This car can be driven immediately!

We can offer this car at such a reasonable price because we are a very small. Pennsylvania licensed. used car dealership. We specialize in foreign/exotic/British sports cars. Please phone Dan at 412-680-1639 or Gary at 412-638-2715 to arrange to see and drive this legendary British sports car.
