For your consideration is an exceptionally clean 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Delivered May 23rd 1963. this Avanti has been in dry California its entire life & still wears its original-issue black plates. consistent with the old registration tags from original owner. This fine example was kept & pampered by the original owner through the early 1980's. The current family (close friends of original owner) took possession at that time. Since new it has been garaged and professionally maintained. most recently by a local shop specializing in special interest vehicles. While this Avanti has had one repaint. and the interior refurbished. it has accumulated only 76. xx miles. While not a concours-quality car. this fine Avanti would be right at home driving to any show 'n shine event. You'll be hard-pressed to find another example that is turn-key & ready for whatever you envision with a vintage car. The current owners are finding themselves with ever fewer opportunities to take the Avanti out. and are ready to find a new home for this long-time member of the family. Seller will consider reasonable offers.

Clear CA title in current owners name. currently registered & insured in CA through July 2014.

BODY:

Repainted in late 1980's in original "Avanti Gray" iridescent (code #P-6335) Paint shows beautifully. with a few small blemishes consistent with 25 year-old paint (see pictures) All chrome & trim is straight & bright (some chrome work done during repaint). A few light scratches on driver's side of front bumper. but nothing that detracts from overall appearance (see pictures) Never wrecked. always garaged. No cracking observed in fiberglass structure "Hog Troughs" are in excellent condition. Doors. hood. & trunk close very solid with above average panel fitment Original PPG/Herculite glass is present & in nice shape. No cracks in windshield. nice back lite. Very tight car with surprisingly few rattles. Excellent visibility and a pleasure to drive. Includes high quality car cover (fits easily in trunk with room to spare)

INTERIOR

Reupholstered using original colors/fabrics in the late 1980's. red seats with fawn trim & red/black carpet. With a full assortment of gauges that only a contemporary Corvette might approach. there's no mistaking you're in a true sports/luxury coupe. The red interior against the Avanti Gray exterior is stunning. and in beautiful shape. Original padded dash is warp & crack free and has great color. Original steering wheel. grips. horn ring are as nice as you'll find on an original car. Fragile horn buttons are intact and solid. Carpet is well-fitted and in near-perfect condition Seat upholstery is beautifully done. well padded and shows virtually no wear. Support is remarkable for something dating back 50 years. Door panels and headliner are consistent with the condition of the original interior. Original molded sun visors have very small cracks. noticeable only upon very close inspection. Original accessory seat belts (Studebaker badge) installed for rear seat passengers. matching seat belts (without Studebaker badge) installed for front occupants. All lights. gauges. switches. radio & rear speaker. heater. etc. function properly. All window regulators operate smoothly. vent windows & rear pop-outs operate without any issues. Remote (solenoid-activated) electric trunk release installed for convenience. Trunk compartment & spare tire well are immaculate

MECHANICAL:

Original Studebaker 289 c. i. V8 with 4 barrel carburetor (240 HP) Factory Borg-Warner 4-speed. 3. 73 rear end ratio. Very tight. free of any groans/whines. Factory power steering & power disc brakes. Over $5. 00 spent on recent maintenance & repairs. including New dual exhaust. from manifolds to chrome tips Reconditioned cooling system. including flush. water pump. hoses. heater control valve. thermostat Reconditioned brakes. including new dual-reservoir master cylinder. rebuilt booster. 4-wheel brake service Firestone whitewall radials (225/70r15) Correct size replacement battery & cables. Rebuilt carburetor & major tune-up Fresh valve cover & valley cover gaskets. engine repaint & general detailing.

Prior to listing. I enjoyed over 50 miles of trouble free driving. Through mixed in-town driving. twisting foothill back roads & highways. The agility and power of this Avanti are a true joy. Through all the mixed driving. the oil pressure remained at 55-65 psi and the temperature was consistently 180-185º F. The 4-speed Borg-Warner gearbox is very well matched to the torque curve and power band of the 289 V8.
