1971 Jaguar E-Type

The stunning 1971 Jaguar Series III V12 Fixed Top Coupe XKE is being offered by the widow of the one owner since 1979.  In her words she has indicated that her husband loved this XKE to the point that he spent money on the restoration 3-4 years ago that she was not aware of until she found the extensive restoration receipts.  The file included over $48. 00 of recent restoration costs and additional thousands of dollars of receipts for the interior.  The photos show that this is a very crisp and highly sorted XKE.  The receipts indicated that the engine was rebuilt. carburetors were rebuilt. transmission. nbsp;rear end and all mechanicals gone through and redone in the last 3-4 years.  Receipts show that $3. 00 was spent on the interior to bring it to the beautiful condition you see in the photos.  

Her husband had told her that after the work was done that the car was a fantastic runner and her husband enjoyed long drives for the sheer enjoyment of showing off the car and enjoying the roar of the engine.  The mileage on the odometer is indicated at 50. 57 and the widow believes that it is the original mileage but has no documentation.  

The Jaguar is sporting the original factory British Racing Green color and the widow says her husband demanded that the car's originality be maintained and expected the greatest perfection that he could get from the mechanics and others involved in the restoration process.  

As most collectors know the Series III was introduced in 1971 with the new 5. 3 litre V12 engine.  It is interesting to note that the V12 engine was lighter weight then the six cylinder XKE engines that preceded the V12 engine.  When the V12 roadster and closed coupe came out they were both offered only on the long wheel base.  

In reference to the decoding on this car it is listed on the title as a 1971 Jaguar E-Type.  The vin number 1S71***BW decodes as 1S/71 = 2+2 lhd (left hand drive) and BW =  E-types with automatic gearbox:  Chassis number suffix BW Automatic Borg Warner gearbox (found on all Series 3 models).  

It should be noted that this car spent its entire life on the west coast. originally from California.  

The XKE V12 engine has long been noted for its fantastic ability for high speed touring especially with the automatic transmission.  

In closing we can only say that every post war foreign sports car collection should have an XKE.  We cannot think of a better XKE in the beautiful British Racing Green color along with the artillery wheels. this is truly a handsome car in wonderful condition.  A relatively low reserve (please don't ask) as the widow has a strong desire to see the car in the hands of a new caretaker.  

Don't forget that there are probably very few enclosed coupes that are more fun to drive and are genuinely very fast then a Series III XKE coupe!
