FOR SALE: A unique fully restored BMW E28 M5 press car.

EQUIPMENT

EXTERIOR
This E28 M5 was used as a BMW press car so is finished in a special Blue/Black Metallic. At the time of purchasing the car the previous owner a Mr Walker worked for Vines BMW as a Diagnostic Technician so instructed their in house body shop to completely strip the car and respray it in the original colour including the engine bay. He wanted to get the car back to new showroom condition so had the following replaced with BMW OEM parts; bonnet. front wings. front and rear shadow-line bumpers. two doors. front and rear screens. window surround trims. all other exterior trims. badges etc.

INTERIOR
BMW always spec up the press car with all the latest equipment and luxuries. this is no exception. BMW Motorsport Gmbh have done a beautiful job of trimming all the door cards. centre console and dash in red leather and the roof lining in red suede making this a very rare M5 interior. According to the Car Club. 20 cars were painted in 'special paint' and only two of those cars are quoted as having 'Special Upholstery'.

After the paintwork was completed at Vines BMW; the previous owner (BMW Technician) stripped the entire interior. had every leather part reconnolised and then painstakingly put it back together replacing every bulb. clip and any other part showing any sign of wear. He also converted the air conditioning to run on the new R134A gas (ice cold) and replaced the PCB board in the dash binnacle.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This M5 has a fantastic history so it is clearly evident that it has been correctly maintained throughout its life. But when Mr Walker got hold of the car he again wanted perfection so completely rebuilt the engine with new piston rings. bearings. re-machined crank. skimmed head and block. new valve seats. valves. valve stem seals. every gasket. nut and bolt replaced. new timing chain. sprockets and guides. ignition leads. distributor cap. idle valve. throttle switch. complete BMW exhaust system and more. all documented with BMW invoices.

As well as wanting to get the car into perfect mechanical condition he also wanted the appearance under the bonnet to look like new so the engine bay was repainted and the following parts were replaced; alternator. starter motor. radiator. expansion tank. A/C condenser and receiver dryer. A/C fan. A/C resistor. eater motor. washer bottle. coolant hoses and more.

The gearbox did not miss out on the attention and got new gear linkages. seals. mounts. Lots of enthusiasts spend many hours detailing their engine bays but you cant' beat replacing every part with brand new BMW items!

WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
At the same time as the paintwork was done the wheels where fully refurbished at BMW. Earlier this year these immaculate wheels have also been treated to a brand new set of Kuhmo tyres.

The front suspension was stripped down and the sub-frame powder coated. new track rods and bushes were also fitted. The dampers having been replaced at about 125k

The rear sub-frame was also stripped and powder coated and all the following were replaced; sub-frame bushes. wishbone bushes. brake lines. flexible brake hoses. fuel lines. fuel tank. ABS sensors. wheel bearings. ABS sensor rings. rear hubs and diff mounts.

HISTORY FILE
This M5 was first registered in July 1986 and supplied as a BMW press car by BMW Motorsport Gmbh. The car comes with its original service book that is fully stamped (29 times) with all the services from the running in check in 1986 to the last service on the 4th of October this year. This is all backed up with a file that contains all the old service receipts detailing the work that was carried out. almost all of the MOT certificates are also still present in the file.

The previous owner had the car since April 2004 and has kept a record of all the work done and all the BMW parts receipts for every part detailed in the above description. At the time of purchasing the car he was a Diagnostic Technician at BMW and now owns and runs his own BMW Specialist workshop in Loxwood - www. walkersautotech. co. uk.
