1970 Type 1 VW Beetle 1500 in the hard to get - Honey Brown (Possum poo).

The story begins. Once upon a time in 1991 the intrepid previous owner ran the Beetle up on a pair of car ramps to replace the exhaust flange gaskets to quell the complaining from his wife. The exhaust was removed and then. (nothing). The car sat on the ramps for 25 years.

I approached the owner about buying the Beetle and he said he'd let me know - his intention was to get it going again. A year later he phoned me (That's now 26 years up on the ramps!)

In the mean time I had bought another project which I am half way through (not a VW). I bought it out of obligation and to stop it from being either crushed or parted out.

Now it's at my house. As a precaution I removed the plugs and soaked the engine with WD40. It wasn't seized but better safe than sorry. It's got good even compression at around 130.

There is no end float in the crank.

I haven't fired it up (should be a formality) but the fuel pump isn't working. I have ordered a kit which I will install. The lines have been blow through and the fuel tank drained and cleaned.

Currently no brakes but the culprit appears to be the master cylinder. I'll fit that and bleed the brakes in a day or so.

I have been in contact with the previous owner to locate the exhaust. His garage is more cluttered than mine so factor in a new muffler just in case the exhaust doesn't materialise.

The body is quite straight but has been repainted here-and-there. lets call it Patina. It's got Patina hanging out it's missing tailpipes!

Sadly there is a little rot in the drivers side floor pan. It will patch OK but it is there. Also in the little cubby compartment behind the rear seat there is a little daylight showing through.

The rest looks very solid.

The interior is a bit sad. The roof lining needs a clean and has 2 tiny tears. The passenger seat is bad as is the top of the rear seat. The drivers seat is good but has been recovered in a vinyl that doesn't quite match the original. A new vinyl seat cover set is $395. The carpets are toast but the rubber matting is in tact.

It is missing the VW Badge and the garnish on the Boot lid (front) and the "1500" badge off the Hood (Rear)

A handy person will have it sorted in a few days - hopefully not in 26 years time!

It's too good to wreck. I'm torn between just getting it running and zooming around in it as it is.

I have tried to show the problems in the pics but feel free to call me - Do NOT SMS/Text me as I will not respond. Cheers  Matt 0412319974
