Technical specifications, photos and description:
This 1964 RHD Lotus 7 was found in California and is on its way back now. It will land on September 26th. This isn't a barn find. but a unique opportunity to buy a very original Lotus Seven & plus almost all the parts for a full restoration.
It was purchased by the last owner about six years ago and had sat at the back of an engineering shop for at least 25 years.
* I have just put the ad up on ebay and had a call from a very knowledgable chap with the next chassis number along. It seems this car is one of four that was built in Nov '63 and shipped to California in early '64 to Ecurie Shirlee in Manhatten Beach. Ecurie Shirlee was run by Bob Challman who is well known in Lotus racing circles. I was told that it is rumoured these four cars were running Formula Junior engines.
The guy that bought it was the largest Caterham dealer in the States and this was his personal project. He has just retired and is moving to Texas. I bought the car from him. Not only is this a fantastically original Seven but it comes with virtually all the new parts to restore it. New panels. dash. tunnel. loom. wings. bonnet. too much to list. It even comes with the correct paint for the block and two new Lotus badges still in their wrappers!
The engine is a BMC A series and is ready to put together. A lot of the early Sevens were BMC powered. The previous owner was a professional IMSA racing driver and master engine builder. The block. crank and head are still in cling film and all the new parts to complete the engine seem to be there (I haven't opened all the boxes. /span> but there is at least four sets of pistons). The mileage on the speedo shows 7391 and is probably original as this car spent very little time on the road.
The chassis and suspension parts have already been powdercoated. although it was done sometime ago. but still looks pretty good. There are doubles of a lot of parts. original and new. so the new owner can build it as a brand new car or restore it with a lot of the original panels. I know which way I'd go. There are three new front wings. two rear. two dashes. two tunnels. six shocks. two looms. two starter motors. two dynamos. the list goes on. The original steel wheels are there with the original Firestone tyres.
The car will be sold on a Bill of Sale with all import taxes paid. I will be happy to show the car when it arrives.
What an opportunity to build a very original road car or racer.
My mobile is 07710 159184. Steve email: steve@pistonempire. com The car will be in Acton. Suffolk to view soon after the 26th.
