1970 S1 XJ6 4. 2 Auto in Regence red with Biscuit interior.

I bought this car about 6 months ago. after looking for some time and viewing quite a few cars.   In my experience. these cars are rare in good condition.   Sadly an impending house move has forced it's sale.

I purchased the car off it's second owner. who had had the car about 13 years.   An engineer by trade (he built chassis for Lister Jaguar and more recently specialised in the Daimler V8 engine) he had recommissioned the car after a lengthy lay-up. about 25 years.   This explains why the car only reads 30k miles.   The car is believed to be a 1970 example (from the engine/body number and a few other details like the cam covers) but was not registered until 1972.   Supposedly the car was a dealer demonstrator. which might be why it has extras like an 8 track stereo (which still works!). fog lights and wing mirrors.

Mechanicals

The car is mechanically very good indeed.   I have driven a number of similar cars and this one is very responsive.   The engine always starts easily. even running on it's original. un-modified AED.   Oil pressure stays above 40psi except when hot idling when it falls just below. water always stays below the half way mark.   The engine makes no untoward noises and pulls smoothly throughout the rev range.   I have only driven the car about 500 miles since purchase but it has not required a top up of any fluids (except petrol. ) and does not seem to leak.   The gearbox changes smoothly and cleanly. responds to kickdown correctly and execute part-throttle down shifts when appropriate.   Reverse engages with a slight 'bump' as is normal.   The diff is quiet. the suspension does not knock or wallow and the PAS is light but direct.   There is no slack in any of the controls.   Brakes pull the car up straight. but need a decent shove (again. as is usual) and do pulse slightly at low speeds.   I dare say a new set of brake discs (£25 last time I checked) is required. possibly because the old ones are corroded.   The car has correct Dunlop SP sport tyres all round and correct Lucas sealed beam headlights.   Both fuel pumps work.

Interior

There are no rips or tears to the seats. carpeting or door cards.   All instruments and accessories work. although the rev counter seems to read a bit high.   The map light and cigarette lighter do not function. I haven't looked into this.   All other lights do. operating when a door is opened or the dash board switch is pushed.   The headlining has been done recently but there are areas of imperfection. see pictures.   Someone has put speakers in the door cards.

Exterior

See pictures really.   The car is straight with no obvious scratches or dents.   Some panels (bonnet. doors) have been repainted.   Chrome work is also straight and all of it is present but it's not perfect.   The wing mirrors. aerial and fog lights seem to be period dealer-fit accessories.   The car wears what seem to be it's original numberplates.   Occasionally one side of the bonnet pops open slightly. it may need adjusting.

Of course the car is 'tax free'.   The MOT runs until May 2014. it's done about 1. 00 miles since it's last.

The car is located in Hazlemere HP15 7 and can be viewed by arrangement in the evening (after 5pm). on Friday  6th September or at weekends.   I am asking £9. 00.

Some more pictures. taken at various times over the last few months with different cameras.   The ones labelled as such were taken on 3rd September 2013.
