1964 BOND EQUIPE GT 2 for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.1) based on 711 votes

The Equipe GT 2+2 was the first incarnation of Lawrie Bond's Equipe series. This is number 420 of only 451 cars that were made between 1963 and 1964. before production switched to the double headlight GT4S. As far as I know. only about 10 of the GT 2+2 remain roadworthy. so this is a very rare car indeed.

History

When I bought the car in 2012. I was told that it had been owned by one family from 1964 until it was SORNed in 1987. It was bought by a member of the Bond Club in 2003 and the following has been completed since:

New floorpans and chassis members welded and undersealed.

Engine overhauled. This is the original unit and runs as “sweet as a nut”.

New brakes and brake pipes.

New suspension all round.

New exhaust system.

New radiator. chrome cap. chrome air filters.

MG chrome wire wheels fitted on four new Triumph/MG hub adaptors.

Four new Firestone 155/80 R13 tyres.

New accelerator cable.

Leather covered Mk4 Spitfire seats fitted (I still have the old bucket style seats which need recovering).

A new pair of 3 point static seatbelts fitted to the front seats. (These are not required by law as the car is pre-1965 but they make me feel safer!)

Electric washers fitted (original “push button” pump in spares box).

Chrome “bullet” style wing mirrors and a pair of Lucas Spots (not fitted).

Passed MOT 28 August 2012.

To Do

I rubbed down and sprayed the car myself. It looks good from a distance but does not bear close inspection. A professional spray job is recommended.

The original “Les Leston” steering wheel requires re-varnishing and fitting. Spoked Spitfire steering wheel currently fitted.

The carpets need fitting (laid on floor pan).

The heater pipes need fitting (In the spares box).

A Herald distributor is currently fitted. For the rev counter to work. the rev counter cable and Spitfire distributor need fitting (In the spares box).

The fuel gauge is intermittent.

The wiper rack needs adjustment (The wipers passed the MOT but the cable has stretched which makes them a bit “floppy”!).

Aluminium door step plates need fitting (In the spares box).

Triumph components are reasonably priced and are easily available.

Mileage on speedometer 19. 53 but is probably 119. 53.

Reason for sale

The car passed its MOT 2 September 2013 with no advisory items. However. in the year 2012 to 2013 when it was fully taxed and insured I drove less than 100 miles! This is because it is trapped in the back of my garage and to get it out requires me to juggle my two other cars around my camper van!

I do not need to sell this car. but what it needs is someone who will give it the TLC needed to finish it off and actually use it. £3. 00 but will consider serious offers. No p/x offers please.

I. My name is Paulo and I'm representing the owner of a Bond Equip 2+2 Gt from 1965 and I wander if you could tell me the value of the car for a quick sell. The car is almost complete but it is a complete restoration project.
I can send fotos if necessary.
Best regards
Paulo
