1968 Jaguar E-type Convertible-

This car has been in dry storage since 1989. The owner had purchased the car and. though it ran great. decided he might return the car to its original Willow Green paint and embarked on a restoration.  He did not get very far when other aspects of his life got in the way. Now. 24 years later. he has decided to sell due to a change in his personal situation. This is the last of five such E-types owned by the same gentleman to be auctioned.

We have a fairly thorough file documenting ownership in Georgia back to August of 1983 (30 years). The car comes with a clear Georgia title and a Heritage Certificate. which documents all numbers. original colors and build date of this car.

This car is a true Series 1. 5 You will notice it has the smaller tail lights mounted above the rear bumper. Though the headlamps are not covered on this car. the cover typed headlamps can easily be installed.

The serial number for the car is 1E16283. the engine number is 7E14932-9 and the gearbox number is EE1213. The engine and gearbox are original to the car. As you will see in the pictures. the picture frame (front frame member) is stamped and original as well. The mileage is 48. 13 and is documented. The Heritage Certificate indicates the car was built 14 November 1967.

At the request of the owner. Speedwell removed this Jaguar from storage and brought it to our shop for evaluation with an eye toward selling it to someone who would give it a good home.

We drained the oil and refilled it with 20W50 Valvoline Racing oil which contains ZDDP. an important ingredient not present in most modern motor oils which protects the cams and solid tappets. We installed a new battery. We then removed the spark plugs and checked the compression dry and wet. The results were as follows:

#1- 150 Dry. 165 Wet

#2- 170 Dry. 185 Wet

#3- 125 Dry. 137 Wet

#4- 150 Dry. 155 Wet

#5- 165 Dry. 175 Wet

#6- 165 Dry. 170 Wet

While #3 was a little low. the results were actually very promising for a car that had been sitting so long and we are confident those numbers will come up and even out once the engine is used more regularly. We removed the carburetors and cleaned them. They were in surprisingly good condition and worked as designed. Once the carburetors were reinstalled we added coolant and distilled water at a 50/50 mix. We took off the distributor cap and checked the condition of its internals. Everything was in order. We checked the gearbox and differential oil. both were good.

The only thing left was to attach our life support system to the engine and fire her off. Our LSS consists of an electric fuel pump with its own battery pulling fresh fuel from a tank. through a filter and delivering it directly to the carburetors. With this done. we turned the key and the engine roared enthusiastically to life!  We watched the oil pressure and water temperature very carefully. The oil pressure had climbed immediately to well above 40 psi and stayed above 40 psi once well warmed up. The water temperature went to normal once warmed up and stayed that way. We were astonished at how smoothly it runs. It was as though she had just been driven the day before. There was no smoke at all. aside that from the schmootz on the exhaust manifold from years of sitting. Once that burned off. there was no smoke at all.

The clutch and brake hydraulics need to be gone through and. though nothing sticks. they don't work. So. with the car in the air. we put the car in gear with the engine off. then started the engine to test the gearbox and rear end. We repeated this test in all forward gears and reverse. There were no noises at all emitting from the drive train in any gear and everything spun up as it should.

The wiring on the car appears to be in very good condition with very few signs of ever having been molested. The glass is all in good condition. The windshield had been removed but has been placed back on the car for the pictures.

The seats are leather. in good condition and still well padded. The car comes with a new Black wool carpet set. Along with the new carpet kit is a new dash pad. the original parts and some new parts. see pictures.

If by chance you need a picture of something specific that isn't covered. please send us an email with your request. Though this car has a little rust. it is not horrendous by any means. The foot wells will need to be replaced along with a small portion of the rear floor on the Passenger side. The worst of the body is where someone obviously made a mistake jacking the car up some time in the past and damaged the front of the left sill. The panels are all well aligned and she is structurally sound.

The quandary the lucky winning bidder will have is whether to just put this car back together. re-do the brake and clutch hydraulics and drive it. or take it down for a full restoration. or something in between. That decision will be something only you can decide. It is a great car though and well worth any love you choose to bestow upon it.

Shipping will need to be arranged by the winning bidder. All the tires hold air and the car rolls around freely. We will be glad to assist in loading and will do whatever it takes to make this sale a great experience.

International customers: We are very experienced with aiding shipping agents by expeditiously providing any needed paper work and assisting in delivery to Port. Simply have your agent contact us with his/her requirements.

Delivery to Port Charleston. SC. Port Savannah. Georgia or Port Brunswick. Georgia can be arranged via insured trailer for an additional $700. We recommend overseas shipping via an enclosed container or a "shared" container as “Roll on- Roll off” service does not allow for anything loose to be shipped in the vehicle. This car comes with many boxes of parts.

Thank you for considering this very interesting car and. again. please don't hesitate to email any questions you may have.
