The award-winning 1965 GTO is credited with starting the muscle car craze of the 1960's Big motor. light weight car. four speed and made to go fast. These early GTO's sold many times their projected production and started the lineage of this famous model. A conventional driveline with transmission behind the engine meant that the cars were easier to service and less expensive to build. and this also meant that even more powerful engines could be shoe-horned into the engine bay.
