The Matador is based on a 122" wheelbase and was part of the senior models for 1960.

In Australia we only received the Phoenix Dart models.

1960 Full-Size Dodges are almost extinct. The full-size Dodges were built in two trim levels. the Polara  and the Matador. which was only produced for one model year. This makes the Matadors unique if for that reason only! The Matador could be ordered with just about any trim and powertrain upgrades. and. in my humble opinion. was a better looking car than the Polara when decked-out with all of the fancy upgrades. When restored to their original state. they are truly a unique and beautiful piece of automotive art that stands out in any crowd! 

DESCRIPTION:

This vehicle is an Original unrestored example and a relatively easy restorer.

The car has had an older repaint in what appears to be the original colour scheme. The silver paint on the hood and trunk lid has heavy patina.  There some typical  older repairs to the lower quarters and in the dog leg area ahead of the rear wheels which is common for this model Dodge.  There is some typical rust through in the trunk floor. but overall the trunk floor is original with no evidence of prior repairs with surface rust.  

There is some damage to the stainless trim below the grille & above bumper which is not seen in the photos that was done in transport but can be seen in the last photo if you look closely.  There are some minor dents scuffs and dings here and there accumulated over 56 years of use. but overall the body is Very. Very STRAIGHT with good original panel fit.

This Original example does not have the extent of rust which is typically found on this model Dodge which makes it a relatively easy restorer.

The car is relatively low mileage for its age. The engine and drivetrain look original to the car and undisturbed.  The engine does run but may benefit from recommissioning or a tune up due to long term storage. The engine oil and auto trans fluid look OK.   The brakes are  inoperative due to long term storage.  

Apart from relatively minor damage to the drivers seat & the top of the rear seat - which can be relatively easy to repair with NOS materials from SMS -  the interior is great original condition  

The vehicle is LHD and has never been registered in Australia. however the vehicle has an Australian Import Approval and a copy will be supplied on sale.

Contemporary road tests highlight Dodge ( Mopars ) had superior handling compared to other American cars of the time thanks to "torsion bar front suspension" and the  body was noted as being "rattle free". thanks to monocoque body construction

The 1960 Dodge Matador is a rare vehicle in the USA and even more so in Australia. We believe this may be one of about five known 2  Door Hardtops in both the Matador or Polara trim in Australia.

The most recent publicised USA auction sales of the 1960 Dodge Matador / Polara 2 door hardtop include a restored example which sold for $85. 00 USD and an example with an amateur restoration with apparent poor panel fit and sub-standard body work was recorded to have sold for $56. 00 USD.

 A regular 4 door pillared sedan. requiring restoration was advertised on ebay Australia in 2008 and was sold back to the USA.
