1981 MGB Roadster

These late-model Roadsters are great value for money presently and this beautifully restored example in Carmine Red has the best panel-fit and wing seems I have ever witnessed on any MGB. Over the past 7 years it has been the retirement project of a mature yet enthusiastic gentleman who has committed a vast amount of time and money making it one of the very best available today.

Much has been written about the MGB over the years and it is to many. the ultimate British classic sports car. Still within the reach of most to buy and afford to run. it is sensible vintage motoring with terrific Club support and a great parts and specialist network. Of course. last year. the marque celebrated its 50th Anniversary of the MGB itself and interest in this model has remained on a high since.

With just 46. 00 miles showing (believed genuine). our car was first registered on 1st August 1981 making it one of the last Roadsters to be built. Sadly we don't have much history before its acquisition in 2006 by a gentleman in Somerset seeking something to “get his teeth into”. New panels were purchased from the MGOC including front and rear wings and a passenger door skin and so began a rolling restoration during which time the car was even taken to France for 3 years (the owners had a holiday home in the South) in order for work to continue in the sun! New suspension. new brakes and a vast amount of detailing complemented the restored body-work with a fresh coat of Carmine Red paint being the ultimate touch. undertaken by a professional body-shop in Ilminster just 12 months ago.

Other than one or two stone chips. the coach-work is blemish-free and genuinely presents better than I have seen before on a restored MGB. The panel-fit is excellent and the Carmine Red paint has a wonderful deep lustre. Inside. the car still has the original grey velour seats and black carpets. both in very good condition. whilst the dash is finished-off nicely with a sporting wood-rimmed steering wheel and later CD player. Mechanically. we have undertaken a full service replacing leads. condenser. distributor and rotor arm as precautionary measures. The car starts first turn and runs very sweetly pulling eagerly through the gears including. of course. overdrive on 3rd and 4th.

It comes with comprehensive recent history with bills for over £3000 (not including the re-spray). lots of old MOT Certificates and a current MOT to September 2013.

A very pretty and affordable Roadster ready for the Indian summer ahead!
