1992 Jaguar XJS 5. 3 V12 Convertible Auto

As grand tourers go. these V12 Convertibles are still tremendous value. Presented in stunning Diamond Blue metallic with Saville Grey hide. this wonderful example has covered just 77. 00 miles from new and comes with extensive Jaguar Main Dealer and specialist service history. With Dark Blue electric hood. matching tonneau cover and unmarked lattice alloys. this impressive car is ready for that trip you always promised yourself. Saint-Tropez anyone?

Seen as a direct replacement for the iconic E-Type. the XJ-S went into production in September 1975 sporting a 5. 3 litre V12 engine and the choice of manual or automatic transmission. Timing was not good for Jaguar with a world-wide oil crisis hitting sales of all larger engined cars and with indifferent comments circulating over the styling of the new car (in particular the rear buttresses). the company must have wondered whether they had a lemon on their hands. But after a subsequent 21-year production run. the car has now become a modern icon and with continuous development and clever marketing. now represents one of the bargains from the era of excess. This development included a new High Efficiency V12 engine in 1981 producing more power (around 290bhp) with better fuel economy. a cabriolet from 1985 and a full convertible from 1988 onwards. The 1990`s saw further cosmetic and mechanical improvements with the tried and tested AJ6 4. 0 litre engine appearing in the Facelift model of late 1991 and a 6. 0 litre V12 topping the line until production ceased in 1996. Television appearances in “The Saint” and the “New Avengers” helped to give the car a cool profile and when a V12 Coupe won the original “Cannonball Run” in 1979 (New York to Los Angeles in just over 32 hours) it helped to seal the future of this high-performance GT.

Our car was registered in April 1992 to Jaguar Cars of Browns Lane and was retained by them as a Directors car until February the following year. It is one of the very last 5. 3 V12 models with the 6. 0 litre engine coming out just a few weeks later. H. R. Owen subsequently sold the car to it's first private customer in March 1993 and serviced the Jaguar for the following 12 months (3 services and 26. 14 miles). With the car changing hands again. servicing moved to Cambridge (Marshall Motor Group to become Marshall of Cambridge) who maintained the car for the next 5 years. With another change of owner. servicing from September 1999 moved to H. A. Fox of Nottingham who saw the car 4 times over the next 3 years. Mileage at this point (February 2002) was 48. 93. From this point onwards. servicing has been undertaken by small specialists with the last stamped service recorded at 66. 46 miles. In October 2006. the car was sold by a Specialist dealer in Cambridge for a reputed £16. 00 to a gentleman from Southern Ireland. The car subsequently moved across the water in the summer of 2007 only to return in September 2012 having covered just 10. 00 miles in 5 years. During this period. it has been subjected to the annual (rather rigorous) NCT Certificate albeit the mileage travelled has been very light.

Today the car presents beautifully with virtually unmarked Diamond Blue paint-work. lovely chrome and excellent Saville Grey interior showing just the light wear of 21 years enjoyment. Jump in. turn the key and the V12 fires up instantly. On the open road. the car is super-smooth with effortless performance and undetectable gear changes from the automatic `box. Lovely road manners and firm brakes complete the package. It really is a joy.

The Jaguar comes with extensive paperwork including the fully stamped-up Service Record (14 stamps). full Dealer Pack. MOT certificates from 1995 onwards and NCT Certificates from 2007 to 2012. many sundry bills and a current MOT Certificate to June 2014. The car has been recently serviced and benefitted from a full brake overhaul.

A wonderful “old school” grand tourer with excellent history. Go on. treat yourself!
