History
Sunbeam Motor Cars built up an incredible history for quality motor cars. building their first vehicle in 1899 (a bike) & first car in 1901. However when Henry Seagrave powered the famous 4 tonne. 1000hp Sunbeam to 203. 79 mph on Daytona Beach. Florida. making it the first car to break the 200 mph barrier. it really put Sunbeam on the map. Their reputation for quality. refinement. reliability was 2nd to none.
This particular model the 25hp saloon. was affordable only to the super rich of the time. Priced at £875 these quite special cars where noted for their exceptional smoothness & ride quality. Available from 1933 it replaced the 20hp model & could reach an astonishing speed for the time of 80 mph. Local to our own business premises the Duke of Gloucester was the proud owner of a 25.
Sadly Sunbeam was taken victim of the Great Depression & in 1935 went into receivership & sold to Lord Rootes. Making this car one of the very last true Sunbeams. built & registered in 1935.
The Car
Acquired in 1995 by the previous owner. Evidence on file suggests he paid £6. 00 at that time & the car was not in a great state at the time. I have been told that Holcombe Garage in Frome had a part in restoration works. but have not confirmed this yet. They are apparently well known in the field. Given that the car needed work. that it was 18 years ago. it makes the car look good value today. When you take into consideration the car would have had further expense in restoration works & £10. 00 would have bought you a house back then.
The log book is declaring only 2 x previous owner since 1935 (it states that on the log book) however with DVLA only being formed in 1972 I couldn't declare the accuracy myself. I'll leave that to DVLA.
In 1996 the car was showing approximately 85. 00 miles & today shows just over 100. 00 miles with supporting 13 MOT's all with corresponding miles. It is possible that the mileage is original. however we cannot guarantee.
Interior
The interior trim is in great shape. as you can see on the photos. It looks like it was re-trimmed back in the 90's according to the letter on file.
Engine
The previous owner used this car for touring & a round trip of 300 miles was recently done. The engine is amazing for the age of the car. It pulls well. sounds well & is shocking to me that this technology dates to 1935.
Bodywork
The bodywork is in great condition. Obviously restored & repainted at some time. possibly in the 90's again. There are one or two areas that may need slight cosmetic attention. One on the lip of the bonnet & one on the driver's side doors near the window. We can have this work done for the buyer. however have chosen not to at present as the car is just nice as it is & not fresh out of the workshop. We will leave this decision to you the buyer at no additional cost involved. An estimate on work £200. just to give you an idea of amount.
Viewing welcome at any time. in our out of work / opening hours
