1939 Vauxhall 10. "COD 100"  recently discovered in storage in Plymouth. what a find this is !!

Delivered new to Cecil Henry John Cranse of Parehayne farm.  Colyton. Devon on 28th May 1939. just a couple of months before the start of world war 2. the farmer only used it for a couple of local trips before deciding to hide the little Vauxhall in his barn covered by bales of hay upon the outbreak of war. the car at this time only had 59 miles recorded. the car was left there for the duration of the war. covered in hay bales. after the war in 1945 Cecil was not in the best of health and the car was not moved from its location in the barn until it was sold to its second owner George Shaw of Plymouth in Feb 1951. by this time the car although with only 59 miles on the clock was not looking brand new anymore. it had collected various small dents and marks during its time stored.

Mr Shaw though was very happy with his purchase. he had a car that was virtually as new for a fraction of the price Cecil had paid for it.

Mr Shaw was obviously a very meticulous man. every journey and every gallon of petrol was logged in a small diary from the date of his purchase on 10th feb 1951. he even noted down the various makes of fuel as it was put in the car (shell super. BP super. Regent TT. etc etc) it was used on mostly special occasions covering on average 1000 mls per year. in 1962 Mr Shaw decided to give up driving. the Vauxhall was carefully stored in an integral garage at his home in Plymouth where it had lain undisturbed until purchased by me this week.

This really is an incredible find. it comes his lots and lots of history. it has only covered a genuine 10. 00 mls fron new and has not seen light of day for over 5 decades. they don't come up like this very often. I have the original buff v5. an old mot from 1960 which I think is the first year mots were introduced. lots of invoices. insurance documents and invoices. even all his RAC membership documentation for every year. of course I also have the drivers log from 1951 to 1962.

Upon collecting the car I was amazed that the tyres inflated and the car rolled and steered freely. the brakes even still worked !! once home I had a closer look. the engine turned easily by hand. i fitted a new battery and the lights and fuel gauge spang into life. pressed the starter button and it span over as normal. i cleaned the plugs and points. put a little fuel down the carb and pressed the starter button. to everyones amazement it spang immediately into life !!!! unbelievable. the engine sounds fantastic. i expected it to die after a few seconds once the fuel in the carb was used but no. it carried on running until i turned it off 20 minutes later so it is running on its original 1962 fuel ?

It would drive but the clutch is stuck. i will try to free this before the end of the auction

The bodywork has survived very well. the sills need some repair work but the chassis etc is excellent. the wings have various dents and some rust but again are saveable. the whole car is covered in surface corrosion but it will not need any new panels in my opinion. of course it could be preserved as it is. it would make a very interesting exibit at any classic car show/meet.

The car also carries its original and desirable registration number COD 100. i have applied for the new v5 through DVLA and that will be forwarded to the new buyer as soon as it is received. it does however come complete with the original logbook and all paperwork listed above.

A very very rare find
