1958 Wolseley 15/50

Offered for sale is this very fine example of the 1958 Wolseley 15/50 saloon classic car. Developed from the Wolseley 4/44 the 15/50 was produced from 1956 to 58 and incorporated the BMC 1. 5 litre engine with gearbox and axle. The 15/50 had floor gear change and more power now rated at 53 BHP. A comfortable car with good handling enhanced by the fitting of rack and pinion steering. Aimed at the upmarket family saloon buyer this car would have cost you over £900 in 1958. A similar sized Morris. Austin or Hillman would have retailed at around the £700 mark.
This car has been extensively restored and uprated for modern use. The paintwork is excellent. the car has been completely re upholstered and carpeted. rear bumper and over riders re chromed and windscreen seal replaced. The door cappings and dashboard woodwork are all in excellent order with controls added for the control of both flashing turn signals and original semaphore fitments. The car is also fitted with electric windscreen washers to compliment the self parking wipers. the motor of which has been overhauled. New inertia reel seat belts are fitted for front seat occupants.  
The rear axle now contains a 4. 3 to 1 differential in place of the original 4. 75 to 1 which was rather to low a ratio even at the time. The gearbox has been fitted with new synchromesh on the top three ratios.  
The engine has been totally rebuilt and re bored with new five ringed MGA pistons and larger valves as fitted to the MG Magnette ZB with which the car shares it's body shell. Also twin SU carburettors and a tubular exhaust manifold with matching performance exhaust system and a new clutch completes the specification.
All this means that the car can be driven in comfort with reasonable performance more in keeping with todays conditions without losing it's originality. The modifications were all fitted to other BMC cars of the time.  
The car is in regular use and has been used for a number of weddings in the last two years. These cars are getting hard to find numbering about fifty left registered. They share many parts with other BMC cars including the MGA and Magnette so parts are not generally a problem.
There is a stack of invoices with the car and some historical documentation.  
The vehicle is taxed (free tax) and ready to use. If required by the buyer an MOT can be supplied (although not now required by law).
