TRIUMPH STAG YELLOW

Welcome to the auction for my 1971 Tax Exempt Triumph Stag. which I have owned for over 11 years. It was immaculate when I bought it and was then stored on the drive for several years due to lack of garage space. This took its toll a little on the bodywork as you can see from the photos. I had planned to strip it have several new panels fitted and then a respray. I therefore. put the car into dry storage around 4 years ago in anticipation of this. However. in reality I have too many classic cars and need to reduce them down to a manageable number. I got as far as buying the panels. from Rimmers. which are available by separate negotiation.
Mechanically the car is spot on. It has the Triumph V8 engine with manual overdrive. There are no overheating issues. these engines are great if looked after correctly. Oil & filter has been changed every 3000 miles. It has champion plugs. It doesn't like NGK and neither do Minis. MGBs or Rover V8s for some reason. It has a summer thermostat and the temperature sits about 1/3 up the gauge. I fitted new Payan head gaskets about 8 years ago. The heads were not skimmed as they were fine. I had new timing chains tailor made from the same chain manufacturer that supplies Mercedes. These were fitted about 10. 00 miles ago. These should not be as short lived as standard Stag chains and should last many more years/miles. Overdrive works great and there is no water in the 'V'. From what I can see the underneath of the car is good. I fitted a new clutch and rebuilt the rear brakes with new adjusters about 10. 00 miles ago.
There is a rip in the base of the driver's seat. I had a new quality soft top fitted about 6 years ago. The headrests are not included. as they belong to my MGB GT. Rear suspension has been polybushed. The car has Stainless sports exhaust pipes and sounds fantastic. I decided to recommission the car last summer and have only driven just over 500 miles since the MOT.
In summary. it is a useable mechanically sound car. but will obviously need some bodywork in the future.

Please be aware that the car has been been laid up for some years and needs to be used to be loosened up a little with regular use. I took it out today and thought that the suspension felt a little floaty. Otherwise it drove great and pulls fantastically.

There is a break in the soft top frame near where it meets the windscreen on the drivers side. I have a spare frame to go with the car. You would need to combine the 2 to make 1 good frame. Engine bay is silver. Rear arches are very good. Front arches were filled in places to get through the MOT. I also have a spare boot lid and drivers door available by separate negotiation.

Please note that the lip on the hard top where it sits on the body has a fair bit of rust and will need attention. It is an original steel factory hardtop.
