1971 Triumph Stag - very original - 41. 00 miles – cherished plate

Although my Stag has had work carried out over the years. it is still very original and with a genuine 41. 51 documented miles.   I have owned this car since 1995.   The previous owner had asked me to promise that I would keep the car for the same amount of time he had owned it.   20 years of his ownership was rather hard to match up to. but my 18 years is not bad.   The car was first registered in November 1971 and acquired by the previous owner in 1975 whereupon he applied to put his own cherished plate OA1 on the car.   The windows are still etched with this number.   When I acquired the vehicle. the owner retained his plate and the DVLA incorrectly allocated an age related number.   Having researched the car's history. I found that the original number of DOT 6K should have been re-allocated and was duly returned to the car.

My wife and I enjoyed many years with the car and Stag Owner's Club membership.   Unfortunately. circumstances change and six years ago we reluctantly stopped regular use of the car.   Initially. the garaged car was insured. taxed (exempt). and mot'd each year. but in recent years. SORN has been declared.   The time has now come to part with our car and let somebody else enjoy it.

DOT 6K is very original.   It has the original Triumph V8 engine and everything else under the bonnet is original apart from a new battery put on this month.   The interior is immaculate and totally original.   There are no tears or wear to the seats. the carpets are original. although the driver's one has been repaired.   The dashboard is as it came from the factory with no fading or flaking.   The paintwork would benefit from some attention but nothing serious.   When I acquired the vehicle there was a small amount of rust over each front wheel arch that I wanted properly repaired. I was not happy with the wheel arch repair strips so I had the entire wings properly replaced.   The car then had a full re-spray.   18 years later. it is now time for the paintwork to receive some attention.   There is no major rust but there are areas of surface paint that need looking at to help the car last another 18 years.   The car had new tyres with the proper kerbing bead not long before we stopped using the car. so they are virtually unused.   The soft top has hardly been used and is immaculate.   There is one very small split in one side window. but apart from that. it is as near perfect as you can get.   It's also a very good fit.   On the rare occasion when we have put the top up. it has been quick and easy with no struggling. This leads onto the hard top.   Unlike some Stag owners. I love the look of the Stag with it's hard top on.   It's not only elegant with lots of bright chrome. it is very practical in the depths of winter when preferring to take the Stag out rather than the ‘other car'.

The engine has only ever let me down once and that was my own fault.   I never experienced the infamous ‘overheating' problems apart from this one time.   I unusually followed a friend rather fast for many miles along a motorway before coming to a standstill in traffic on a very hot summer's day.   This was the one and only time the engine overheated.

If you are looking for a Stag. I probably don't need to tell you about the powerful engine. the comfortable seating. the sound of the exhaust. and the sheer pleasure of driving.   All good things must come to an end and this is the time for me to relinquish ownership of my cherished car.   It is not fair to leave it sitting in my garage any longer.   The previous owner cried when I collected the car from him.   I can't promise that I won't be as sentimental.   Stag ownership can be very emotional.

The car comes with a documented history including nearly all MOT certificates.   I will also include the all-weather cover. a spare tyre. cans of oil. and any odds and ends of servicing spares and other items I have collected over the years.   My 18 year collection of Stag Owner's Club magazines will be included as well.   The August 1998 issue has our car on the front cover (Oh to be that young again!).  There are also a few period magazines depicted the Stag that the previous owner had collected. The car has just passed its MOT earlier this month so removing it from SORN will simple.

You are very welcome to inspect the car.  Please get in touch for more photos or information. or to come to view the car in Essex.
