The Jaguar XJS is a luxury grand tourer produced from 1975 to
1996 and replaced the E-Type. Although it never had quite the same
sporting image. the XJS was a competent replacement with better
aerodynamics than the E-Type. The last XJS was produced on 4th
April 1996 by which time 115. 13 had been produced during a 21 year
production life. The specifications of the XJS compared well
against Italian cars with acceleration of 0-60mph in 7. 6 seconds
and a top speed of 143mph. The first series of XJS cars had a
Borg-Warner Model 12 transmission; however. in 1979. GM
Turbo-Hydromatic 400 transmissions were fitted. In 1983. a new 3. 6
litre AJ6 straight-six engine was introduced by Jaguar and at the
same time a new cabriolet model. the XJ-SC became available. The
XJ-SC was not a full convertible but had a non-removable centre
targa-type structure and fixed rails above the doors. The static
rear quarter windows remained. The two-seat XJ-SC targa was
replaced by a two-seat full convertible in 1988 and proved to be a
great hit.

This XJS convertible was first registered in July 1988 and has
been owned by the current vendor for the last 12 years. Being part
of a small collection. the car has enjoyed limited use and the
mileage of 61. 00 is believed to be correct. In addition to being a
fine example. it also benefits from an American headlamp conversion
replacing the original 'box' units and thus enhancing the aesthetic
appearance. Supplied with a V5 registration document. together with
a full year's MoT test certificate. this signal red and charcoal
trim XJS is a particularly fine example and a credit to its
fastidious owner. Jaguar XJS convertible prices have risen of late
as fewer good specimens remain; this is an extremely well presented
example.
